I would like to see an optional behaviour of the quick search function: Reduce the file list for each character typed in the quick search window. It should also match ANYWHERE in the file names, ie typing "abc" would show files like ABC.C, ABC.H, MAINABC.C NISSE.ABC, but hide all files not containing "abc".
I know I can use Ctrl-F12, typing *abc* + Enter, but it's not as quick and comfortable as a Quick search improvement
The file list can be restored (to full file view) when the Quick search window is closed, or maybe better, after a refresh (ctrl-r / f2).

I know, but the cursor will jump around in a very "strange" manner, and it's not so obvious how many "hits" I got, since all files are still in the list.

Nice idea. Perhaps it won't be very easy to implement but I'd like to see that too.

Normally using latest TC on:
x32: WinXPx32 SP3 (very rarely nowadays).
x64: Clients/Servers - Win10/Win11 and Win2K16 to Win2K22, mainly Win10 though.
Good idea, I like it. Perhaps the file window should be titled "serch result" or something, to show that the view is filtered, just like if you select - feed to listbox, after a search.
Or if you are viewing "C:\Windows\*.*", the desription could be changed to: "C:\Windows\ [Quick Search]" and then restored after F2 / Ctrl-R.

Well, I'm afraid that doing it this way could slow down TC. I think that in most cases (programs) you could see such a solution - special components where used for it. Of course I can be wrong... I wonder what Christian thinks about it...
I don't like the idea that the quicksearch hides any not matching files. I mean, the idea is realy great, but i'd like it to be implementat as an extra feature (quick-filter?) and leave the quick-search the way it is. With one exeption:
Christian, please let the quciksearch-box also apear on non-alphanumeric chars (such as '*', '?', '_', '-', etc.). I use the quicksearch beginning wich a '*' very often and it's realy nasty to search for an unimportant letter (to make the quickview appear), deltete thisone via backspace and them type my quick-search... this isn't quick any more...
2JonasOK, the quick filter / quick search could be selectable. I like the idea to just start typing a fraction of the file name, and then look at the file pane to see the result immediately. I hope Christian could say something about this, since it seems (to me) like a quite simple thing to implement, and would speed up the file management.
And Jonas, on my computer it's working when typing '*' followed by letters - the Quick search pops up immediately when typing the asterisk. (I use a swedish keyboard, so the asterisk requires the shift key to be used. Maybe it depends on the keyboard layout?)

That would be greate! An additional option for quicksearch: "hide nonmatching files"

I use a german keyboard layout. here the Shift-Key is also required for the '*'. But the shift does'n seem to be the matter: '*' on num-pad doesn't work either. Nor does '-' (numpad or not) and therefor shift isn't required!

Since the TC6 now ha reached a stable level, maybe it's time to look for nice new features...
That is why I'm bumping this "old" thread. The projects I'm working with gets bigger and bigger, so this suggestion with a "quick filter feature" would be more and more interesting. The more files I'm working with, the more difficult it is to remember their "exact" name...
