Windows 10: Do Total Commander work fine?
Moderators: Hacker, petermad, Stefan2, white
In my repeated tests in Windows 10 64bit in Surface Pro 3 the freezing period of TC 8.51a ends spontaneously after 2 to 4.5 minutes if left alone.
Therefore it is not a question of a complete freeze but some extremely slow processing (which, thank God, can be cancelled manually by starting File Explorer).

when i disable the checkbox vor "show drive buttons" in the options tc starts correctly.

I think I found a solution. This worked for me and it may work for others, good luck.colormar wrote:Same problem, TC freezes most of the time. Im on a Surface Pro 2, Windows 10 x64 Pro.Newest version of TC, both 32 & 64 hang in more than half of startings in Windows 10 final in Microsoft Surface Pro 3 (haven't installed Win 10 in other computers yet). Quitting TC (both versions) in Task Manager is very hard, getting them to quit takes from one to four and half minutes irrespective how many times "End task" button is clicked. Waiting TC to quit in Task Manager is wasting of time, because TC hangs immediately when retrying to start it. Only a complete reboot of the computer helps.
Right Click the icon of TC, select properties, then the compatibility tab and
check "Disable display scaling on high DPI settings". Press Ok. That was it, no more freeze.
this solution don't work on my Surface Pro 3. TC also freeze after a lot of starts. When i disable the checkbox vor "show drive buttons" tc everytime starts correctly. The Problem is in this area of the tc.colormar wrote:I think I found a solution. This worked for me and it may work for others, good luck.

Lister bug ?
Every time I press F3 to view a file (Lister), something triggers so I get popups.
Like
"Press Win + G to open Game bar"
"Press Win + Alt + Print to take a screenshot"
"Press Win ? Alt ? R to start/stop recording"
and so on.

Re: Lister bug ?
This messages are not related or triggered by TC.Boost wrote:Every time I press F3 to view a file (Lister), something triggers so I get popups.

Thats Windows 10 trying to give the new user some hints.
Re: Lister bug ?
You can disable these messages under the win 10 settings -> system -> notifications & actionsBoost wrote:Every time I press F3 to view a file (Lister), something triggers so I get popups.

You can see the option here:

it is "show me tips about Windows"
I get 2 of those messages under Windows 10:
"Press Win + G to open Game bar" and
"Press Win + Alt + Print to take a screenshot"
every time I open the 64bit version of TC and when I open Lister from that. I don't get the messages when I use the 32bit version of TC.
It also happens in 64bit TC when I open the Search in Separate Process and the Compare by Content dialogs.

Re: Lister bug ?
That does not disable the popups when I press F3 or as petermad says, does a compare by content.Spaiky wrote: You can disable these messages under the win 10 settings -> system -> notifications & actions
it is "show me tips about Windows"
The popups are still there.
I also only use the 64bit version of TC.

I do not have this problem on Windows 10. I have a Samsung 700T tablet which i similar to the surface pro.when i disable the checkbox vor "show drive buttons" in the options tc starts correctly.
1. What drives do you have?
2. Does the Alt+F1/Alt+F2 drive dropdown combo work?
3. If yes, do you get the drive labels to the right of the drive letters?

What scaling do you use? I have set it to 150%, no problems.

I have now tried to disable all the notifications in "Settings" -> "System" -> "Notifications & actions", but I still get these messages.

1. I have an ordinary harddisk with 3 partitions, a DVD-drive and a cardreader with an SD-card. I also have 3 driveletters assigned to network directories. I have tried to remove both the SD-card from the card reader and the DVD-disk from the DVD-drive - to no avail.
2. Yes, Alt+F1/Alt+F2 drive dropdown combo boxes works.
3. Yes, I have drive labels in the combo boxes.
I also tried with a clean wincmd.ini - still the same problem with te popup messages from Windows.
I use 100% scaling.

150%
but i solve or better i delimit the problem on my Surface Pro 3. It was the SD-Card in the SD-Card slot. When i eject the card tc starts everytime. The Explorer has no problem with the SD-Card.
I hope this will help to find the difference between explorer an tc.
Maybe it is a new driver of Win10 vor the SC-Card reader in the Surface Pro3. Or it is the virus scanner.
When i eject the SD-Card in the freeze situation tc also goes from freeze to open.
EDIT: After i remove the virus-scanner tc freeze furthermore.
The virus scanner is not the problem.
