But in "Indeed, it seems that:" he writes that ALL get replaced except for the backslash. So where is the problem?

Hm, somehow it looked to me that different replacement chars single quote, period and underscore should all be underscore. But if this is really by design you can just ignore my comments here. Sorry for confusion.
