Tab text right aligned when directory contains ampersand

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

Tab text right aligned when directory contains ampersand

Post by *kire »

When the current directory name contains "&", the tab text will be shifted to the right a bit. It's not exactly flushed right, but it looks like a lot of spaces are inserted before the name. See screenshot.

Cannot confirm. Tried to enter a folder like yours A&B, to lock tab and rename it to A&B or some other names with ampersand, all tabs have correct text alignment. Seems that your case is more specific and more information is needed.

What if you try to turn equal width tabs off and see what will happen with this tab? Also you may try to lock it and see result.

Strange, it may depend on the Windows version and the theme. TC itself doesn't insert any extra spaces...

:) Hello !

• I can't reproduce either with a directory <A&B>.
- Win 9x theme under XP-Pro SP2.

• It seems that the “&” in a name at your's acts like a \t, strange…

So it seems to be a bug of Windows 7 Aero. Or maybe a new strange feature?

Yes, I'm using Windows 7, sorry for not saying that. Don't have any wonky themes other than the default, though.

This image contains a tab bar with various tab names and lock states, with tab stretching turned off; the effect is still visible but not very annoying. Here, stretching is turned on for the same tabs.

I experimented with the theme a bit. With Windows Classic (=Windows 2000's theme), the tabs are aligned normally! With Windows 7 Basic (no transparency etc) and Aero, the tabs align strangely.

That's why I didn't see any bugs:)
In Aero or Basic theme I see this bug. But I can't say it is TC fault or theme.

Tahattmeruh,
Ampersand centers tab name. Nothing we can (easily) do about it.
