[9.0b3] Cursor in dialog box when using shift+F5

Post by *Deepbass »

When I use the key command shift+F6 for renaming, the filename is usually selected. When pressing the right arrow key once everything becomes deselected and the cursor is placed BEFORE the dot followed by the extension of the filename (e.g. “.txt”). This behavior is the same as in previous versions and is expected. Now when I use the key command shift+F5 for copying the file in the same pane, the cursor goes BEHIND the dot which is unexpected and unwanted.

TC has to catch the cursor move in the rename edit box to prevent that from happening. This isn't done in any other edit boxes.

But in 8.52 the behaviour in the input field (after pressing shift-F5) was the same as in the rename edit box. So the behaviour changed with the new version. Could you change it back?

I was really used to the old workflow. Pressing Shift-F5 to duplicate and just by pressing the arrow key everything was unselected and the cursor was at the end of the filename. I very often duplicate files and change the last numbers of it and now the cursor is at the wrong place compared to old versions. So I´m just asking if you could go back to the old behaviour. Thanks.

Yes - please let us have the old behaviour back.

You sure about this?

Shift+F4 (twice) on an existing file - to select the file name without the extenion - and pressing Cursor-Right afterwards behaves exactly the same as Shift+F6. So it's inconsistent to change the behavior of Shift+F5 now.

A little summary:
  • Shift+F4 (twice), Shift+F5 and Shift+F6 followed by Cursor-Right place the cursor before the dot in TC8 and earlier.
  • Shift+F4 (twice) and Shift+F6 followed by Cursor-Right still place the cursor before the dot in TC9, but Shift+F5 followed by Cursor-Right places the cursor behind the dot.

Hey, nice catch. Indeed it seems only the SHIFT + F5 dialog has this behavior.

I remember it was requested in the past for SHIFT+F5 to have the same behavior as the rest and it was nice to have it up until 8.52. Hopefully it will return in an upcoming beta.

It's indeed a bug, it misbehaves because I switched from an edit box to a combobox, and that doesn't work the same way. But it should be easy to change.

Confirm the fix in TC9 beta4.
