Had a new installation of TC. (reused some of my settings, but not all)
1) start TC
2) change sorting
3) close and restart TC
4) old default sorting (name) is still used
Tested with and without view modes. Thought changing the sorting of the default view mode would work, but didn't neither
Had to add the sort entries to the ini file itself to make sorting work. Can someone reproduce it.

Make sure that:
1. Configuration -> Options... -> Operation -> Save on exit -> "Panels (brief/full itc.)" is checked.
AND
2. Configuration -> Options... -> Auto switch mode -> "Automatically switch mode on directory change" is unchecked.
OR
2. Configuration -> Options... -> View Modes -> View Modes -> <default> -> "Sort order" is set to "Unchanged".

I'm sorry, I do not understand all the rules in this connection.
If I have only ONE View mode + Auto Switch Mode (with predefined path) enabled(!), and in View mode I have changed
o) Columns view from "Unchanged" to "Full and
o) sort order from "Unchanged" to "Name"
1. Does this mean that this overrules all change of sorting for example - date/descending AND
2. Configuration - Operation - Save on exit: Panels (brief/full, etc.) has no effect?
(This seems to be at present, because after restart of TC sorting date/descending in a directory
is not available anymore - exept for locked TABs (they work fine)).
Is there a hierarchy, if both views (view mode / sorting with save on exit) meet each other?
Or can this never be? ...
Example:
View mode + Auto Switch Mode (with predefined path) enabled
D:\Daten\Programme\TotalCommander\TCD_USB-Stick\TC32-64USB\Migration\_Forumsanfragen\
Sorting: Comments/Descending
If I change away from this path and enter this directory:
D:\Daten\Programme\TotalCommander\TCD_USB-Stick\TC32-64USB\Migration\
then View Modes specification, i.e. Columns view "Full" and sort order "Name" is applied.
But what if I go from ... \TCD_USB-Stick\TC32-64USB\ to the folder "Migration"
D:\Daten\Programme\TotalCommander\TCD_USB-Stick\TC32-64USB\Migration\
and change the sorting to date/descending? => Save on exit, Restart...
Depending on the direction from which I come there would be two separate definitions.
