[Solved] Everything ev: root: produces false results

Post by *ZoSTeR »

Using the native Everything search

Code: Select all

ev:root:
produces very strange results.
E.g. duplicate folders, non existant folders etc.

Not for me using Everything 1.4.0.719b (x64)
On the Everything GUI its produces just C: as result
In TC this generates correctly [No files found]
But what do you accomplish with this option ?
Its almost useless if you read the description:
root: Search for files and folders with no parent folders
Windows 11 Home, Version 24H2 (OS Build 26100.4061)
TC 11.55 RC2 x64 / x86
Everything 1.5.0.1391a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.5.2.0, Listary Pro 6.3.2.88
QAP 11.6.4.4 x64

ev:root:
does not create any results here. What results do you get?

What does everything.exe show when you enter
root:
directly in the program? Here it lists the supported drives.

It seems to occur when you add folders to Everything (Options -> Indexes -> Folders).
Lets say "D:\Downloads" and "C:\Windows"

Everything would show for "root:"
C:
D:
C:\Windows
D:\Downloads

TC shows:
C:\Windows
D:\Downloads
D:\Downloads\totalcmd <- Non existant

It seems that the name of the current working directory gets added.

I couldn't reproduce the bug so far with the release version of Everything - do you use the 1.4 beta? It's possible that it returns D:\Downloads\* instead of D:\Downloads\, then TC calls FindFirstFile to get the file details, and will find the first entry in the directory.

I have made some changes to remove wildcards from search results, but this will not help if the problem is elsewhere. Please test with beta 6.
