[9.0b5x32] ViewMode gets lost when switching panels (CTRL+U)

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

[9.0b5x32] ViewMode gets lost when switching panels (CTRL+U)

Post by *Matthias030 »

When a viewmode gets activated by changing into a special directory, then this viewmode remains in the current panel when using CTRL+U.

The same applies to 9.0b5x64.

Currently Ctrl+U doesn't copy view modes, sorry. I'm not sure whether I should change that or not.

Perhaps this example will help in making a decision:

1) Left panel - Locked TAB with path: D:\Data ... and with ViewMode and AutoSwitchMode for path: D:\Data...
2) Right panel - Locked TAB with path: I:\Data ... cm_srclong - without any Viewmode
3) Focus on left panel, then press CTRL+U
4) Left panel - path I:\Data ... has now ViewMode (of D:\Data)! (Sorting of Comments - descending)
5) Right panel - D:\Data ... has lost ViewMode and has got cm_srclong!

Sorry but without adjusting the view mode we sometimes get strange results
which prevent the intented usage of the view modes after a swap.

Christian,
Currently Ctrl+U doesn't copy view modes, sorry. I'm not sure whether I should change that or not.
Is there any situation in which it is beneficial not to copy view modes as well? If I have c:\MP3 with my MP3 view mode on the left and d:\Images with my Images view mode the right and swap them, what is the benefit in viewing my images with the MP3 view mode (and vice versa)?

Well, if I swap panels by Ctrl+U, I expect to swap with all settings.
So, yes, please change it like this.

The problem is that some things like file filters (e.g. show only exe files) are panel-specific, not tab-specific. They aren't swapped with Ctrl+U because they affect all tabs on one side. Swapping folders doesn't necessarily swap the view modes too, because filters like "at least 50%" are applied to the files after using file filters. View modes would have to be reloaded, but then user-specific views (e.g. user changing sort order manually) would be lost.

20.07.16 Release Total Commander 9.0 beta 6 (32/64)
20.07.16 Fixed: Re-apply auto-switch view mode filters after Ctrl+U, but do not swap view modes themselves (32/64)

While this example (above): http://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=313069#313069 now looks as expected.
in the following example ViewMode gets lost:

1) Left panel - locked TAB with path: D:\Pictures without ViewMode and without AutoSwitchMode
2) Right panel - locked TAB with path: I:\Data ... cm_srclong - without any Viewmode
3) Focus on left panel, right-click on locked tab D:\Pictures then change of <default> to defined
ViewMode, named "ERLEDIGTE_OFFENE" (this has additionally an AutoSwitchMode for path: D:\Data...)
4) ViewMode is applied to D:\Pictures (OK) - (Sorting of Comments - descending)
5) Focus on left panel, then press CTRL+U
6) Right panel - locked TAB with path: D:\Pictures: ViewMode got lost (Sorting of Comments - descending)

but I am not quite sure if this is in connection with
... but do not swap view modes themselves (32/64)
It would be a real pity, if ViewModes would get lost after CTRL+U if you have applied them before.

Yes, that's intentional.
