?Explorer (and dBpoweramp) tooltips not displaying in Beta 4
Title says it all. Tooltips that display fine in Explorer (and TC 8.52) do not display in the file lists in Beta 4.
I'm using Win 8.1, 64-bit.

Hmm, nothing was changed in that function which could cause this problem. Maybe you are using the beta with admin rights and the release with normal rights?

Found how to avoid this problem, although it's not really a solution.
If TC 9.0b5 is installed in its own folder, the tooltips work fine. Installing over my existing version, however, results in the behavior I saw.
I don't know if this is particular to something in my setup, or if it's a general problem.
Just a thought, but maybe some of your other non-repeatable bugs also involve installing over another version.

Which settings file(s) do the TCs use in these cases? Is it the same one or are they different?jkauff wrote:If TC 9.0b5 is installed in its own folder, the tooltips work fine. Installing over my existing version, however, results in the behavior I saw.

I reproduce the problem at first Tcmd launch (TC 9.0b5), but tooltips will appear fine after making a right click in the right or left files panel.jkauff wrote:Found how to avoid this problem, although it's not really a solution.

So it seems that this is just a small initialization problem.
Re: ?Explorer (and dBpoweramp) tooltips not displaying in Be
Is that a fresh install, or an install over TC 8.x? I'll try it again later today.steph7s wrote:I reproduce the problem at first Tcmd launch (TC 9.0b5), but tooltips will appear fine after making a right click in the right or left files panel.

Re: ?Explorer (and dBpoweramp) tooltips not displaying in Be
This sounds like one context menu shell extension loads a dll (MS-C-Runtime?) which is also needed by dBPowerAmp tooltip extension and can't for some reason not located at the time TC tries to instantiate the dBPowerAmp shell extension.steph7s wrote:.. after making the right clic once (as decribed previously) the OLE32 bullets work until i close TC9...
Make sure that the windows search path (Win+R -> sysdm.cpl -> Advanced -> Enviroment Variables -> System Variables: Path) includes the "%SystemRoot%\system32" path.

To me it sounds like Total Commander doesn't have the focus. Then no tooltips will be shown until you focus TC. A left click or right click or Alt+Tab should all work.I reproduce the problem at first Tcmd launch (TC 9.0b5), but tooltips will appear fine after making a right click in the right or left files panel.

Hi Christian, a found a way to reproduce (also in TC 9.0b6) and it's not a focus problem:ghisler(Author) wrote:To me it sounds like Total Commander doesn't have the focus. - No matter of native install or over TC8x
Configuration 1: The Ole32 tooltips (exe/dll version...) not working at TC start (focus in any exe or dll file OK) until you right click this file.
Code: Select all
Display => Icons => Show icons to the left of filename
( ) All associated + EXE/LNK (slow)
(o) All associated
Display => Help texts
[x] Showfilename in file list as tooltip if truncated
[x] Win32-style tips with file comments (if available)
[ ] Comments from descript.ion/files bbs
[x] Comments from (OLE2)
Operation => Mouse selection mode
(o) Left mouse button (Windows standard)
Same as Configuration 1 but "Show icons" option changed :
Code: Select all
Display => Icons => Show icons to the left of filename
(o) All associated + EXE/LNK (slow)
( ) All associated
