Post by *johnstonf »

Ok, that sounded handy, but what you mean is that it
doesn't exist yet.... thanks, Fred

(my candles are starting to cost a fortune too!)

pig.destroyer asked if it is possible to have three windows in TC e.g.

first window : Directory tree
second one : just the files depending to the Tree
third : another folder

He was told that this isn't possible. So he wanted to know why - other programs could handle more than two windows. Than there was a big discussion pro and contra more than 2 windows.

Contra with more than two windows: how should TC know from wich to wich window to copy/move/pack etc.; too many windows are rather confusing; more windows would ruin the look and feel of TC and putt off many years standiong users.

Pro you could work with 4 and more folders simultaneous, could arrange them as you like etc.

For@Ghisler is the main reason not to implement more than 2 windows that you have always one source and one target. This way you can easily operate with keyboard (without mouse as many user like to). And the Tabs bring additional functionality for drag and drop etc.

icfu critizised that TC in his opinion keeps in the same old way and regrets that there are not more than two windows. He'd like two additional lister- windows to compare two files by sight. (if you're changing the Tab lister looses the focus).

And then there was merely rude remarks how to post new ideas or be against new ideas and decline every new idea just because it's new and that not every new idea must be a good idea etc.

But the consens seemed to be: Okay we can try more than two windows but only OPTIONAL (i.e. you can disable them).

thats my summary of the thread

:) Thanks a lot, Stefan. It's really a good useful abstract of this big thread ! I store it, maybe I'ld translate in French whether the same question comes back in the French Forum...
{Off-topic : T.S. ! It's almost ended :wink: }
