Possible icons bug + Get old archive icon back.

Post by *avada »

Hi!

I think the new archive icon is barely distinguishable from the folders. I'd like to request a setting to get back to old one, or at least one that I can tell apart from the folder icons. (I like all the other icons.)

Also as an experiment I tried disabling the "Show default folder/file icons from Explorer" option, but even that didn't bring back the old archive icon. So I guess this is a bug.
It changed the folders back though, which I don't like.

I would prefer to get rid of limitations that don't allow setting icons for any file/folder using internal associations, it would allow setting custom archive icons too.

BTW when I disable 'show default folder/file icons from explorer' option, archives are shown with old good icon.

Hmmm. Weird. Are you also using tc64? And the latest b11?

I use 32-bit TC 9.0b11. But with 64-bit one I also see old archive icons.

After you have disabled icons from Explorer, then check to see if you have an IconLib= line in your wincmd.ini, and if you have, check that it points to a library that has the old TC archive icon.

I can confirm that archives still have system icons in TC 9.0b11 when I disable Explorer icons in case when IconLib is not set. When IconLib is set, archives have proper icon from lib.

So can I - and I would expect the same icons to be used when no iconlib is set as I do with iconlib=%COMMANDER_EXE% - so I consider this to be a bug.

I don't. Why would I? I never used custom icons.
(Also is that feature only available through the ini? If so, it makes it twice as bad...)

Until TC9b10 it was only possible to use the old TC 8x icon by adding iconlib="COMMANDE_EXE" to the wincmd.ini file.

The possibility to disable the new option in TC9b11 "Show default folder/file icons from Explorer" should do the same, but apparantly the old archive icon is not used in that case, unless iconlib="COMMANDE_EXE" is used - probably a bug as I wrote in a later reply.

Then I guess it'll be fixed.
What can I do if I only want to change the archive icon back, or at least to something different?

Indeed the checkbox is just for default file and folder icons. But I agree that it should also be applied to default archive icons, although they are not mentioned.

So now that the bug part is fixed...
How do these iconlibs work? Can they only override one icon (the archive), or must they have every icon?

Icon library must have all icons. So you can take a library with default icons (e.g. this one - it only has modified hidden overlays) and replace any icon using e.g. Resource Hacker (which also may be used for extracting icons from any executables).
