external RAR packer

In TC I use external rar32.exe (command line version 3.11) packer.
It works ok, but in rar archive I lose long file names.
It converts LFN to something like myfile~1.doc, etc.
Its strange cause rar32 can handle LFN.

Is there a switch in TC to handle this?

I use rar.exe (v3.10) as external RAR packer too, but it supports long file name.

I definitely recommend to use "rar.exe" over "rar32.exe". Sometimes "rar32" does crazy things.

So for instance, to make a backup for Total commander I use the following command :
rar a -m5 -r -s -rr "C:\Temp\Backup Total Commander.rar" "C:\wincmd\*.*"

Command line 32-bit RAR for DOS and OS/2

1. Introduction

It is 32-bit RAR version for DOS and OS/2. Unlike 16-bit
RAR/DOS it is able to create archives using dictionaries
larger than 64KB. This version is the command line only,
full screen mode is not supported. It can work under OS/2 as
native OS/2 application handling long names and extended
attributes. It also understands long file names when
executing in Win95/98 DOS box, but if you need a command
line RAR for Windows, it is strongly recommended to use the
native Win32 console rar.exe from WinRAR package, which has
better performance in Win32 environment.

Normally I recommend to use winrar.exe. Unfortunately version 3.11 of Winrar has a severe bug (confirmed by the author) which causes it to pack the full path instead of the relative path when packing several subdirs. So my recommendation would be to use Winrar 3.10 until this bug is fixed.

Well, I seriously doubt I can recommend something after you did, but with full functional console Windows 32-bit rar.exe support we have now (THANK YOU, Christian!!!) I do recommend to use rar.exe v.3.11 from WinRAR package with Commander - AFAIK this couple works now like Rolex .[/face]
