The option “Only search in selected directories” greyed out

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

The option “Only search in selected directories” greyed out

Post by *Adams »

This is about the option “Only search in selected directories” in “Search in separate process” (Alt+Shift+F7).

In TC9RC3 64bit, choosing one or more dirs, pressing Alt+Shift+F7, after getting the “Find Files” window, the option “Only search in selected directories/files” can be turned on or off, and it works all right.

But if after getting the “Find Files” window by pressing Alt+Shift+F7, click somewhere outside of the “Find Files” window, then the option “Only search in selected directories/files” would be greyed out. This option won’t be available any more in this “Find Files” window.

I guess this is still under development. Because in Help it’s mentioned that “Only search in selected directories/files” is currently not available in "Search in separate process" (Alt+Shift+F7).

Once you have started the search, you can leave the window, and the “Only search in selected directories/files” stays selected.

I guess TC does this to prevent that the user goes back to TC and changes the selection and now expects the separate search process to now use the new selection - which it cannot since the separate search doesn't know what goes on in TC's main window.

petermad is exactly right! When you click outside the search, TC disables the "Only search in selected directories/files" checkbox because the user could change what is selected. There is no communication between TC and the launched separate search window after it has been opened. Therefore the search window wouldn't be informed when the selection changes.

ghisler(Author),
Maybe you can show asterisk icon with some tooltip near blocked checkbox to let user know why it was greyed? Also help topic should be updated to note this unclear behaviour.
