TC 9.0 RC5 64-bit scrolling very slow stealing control

The behaviour described in the bug report is either by design, or would be far too complex/time-consuming to be changed

TC 9.0 RC5 64-bit scrolling very slow stealing control

Post by *manveru »

On the Dell Latitude E5550 with Alps Trackpoint scrolling behaves weirdly, normally in most application middle button activates scrolling mode similar to scroll wheel in the mouse, but done normally with the Trackpoint.

In TC 9.0 it works, but misbehaves. Scrolling is very slow, like processing events produced by the Alps driver would be very very slow, so sometimes the content move up and down couple times before it stops. This can take seconds, but at the same time control over the cursor on the screen is stolen, so there is no option to move it until TC finishes it's slow scrolling.

I had that problem with some previous versions of TC and I can't recall if I had to do something to prevent it from happening (like adding a exception for Alps driver in the registry) or it has been fixed in TC itself. If the former would be nice to be able to quickly find instruction how to fix again.

Any advice related to the problem? For now it looks like a bug in the application.

Thank you.

Thanks, disabling that helped.

However, it doesn't change the fact the problem exists in first place! All other programs are working fine with this option enabled, and I have fast enough machine to you all these graphical gadgets.

No, as you can read in the linked thread, the problem exists in EVERY application that uses list boxes, even ones that come with Windows!

I don't notice the problem in any other application or list. Just in the TC.

Explorer doesn't use Listboxes, it uses Listview controls. Show me any app which uses Listboxes with a lot of items...

I'm not an expert in Windows GUI programming, but List View seem to be more natural to be connected with model for larger volume of data. At least from Qt perspective.

Read my posts in the other topic and try the applications mentioned there. You'll see that it's not just TC.

Why do I have to explain that again and again? Yes, in TC the crappy animation is more obvious because the main window uses list boxes while in other applications only some minor dialogs use them. But then again: it's a system option, so the setting applies to ALL applications.
