Can't Kill a program startet from TC, the circle just spins
The network places id MUCH quicker now and VERY usable, but 1/2 the time I start a program by d-clicking on it from with in TC the circle just spins ... and spins ... and spins and finally when I try to kill it with a 3-finger, or taskkill, or process killer, the app just goes white and until I reboot it'll be there.
Somewhere along updating to V8 is where this started and in V9RC5 it's really bad.
Need anything from me to help?

This is in no way a TC fault.
You have some strange Antivirus program or problems with user rights on the started apps or the file system.
You can use process explorer and check what happens.
Are you starting programs from network shares ?

If this ONLY happens with TC how can it not be a TC problem? FWIW I run Avast Free and nothing else really strange.Horst.Epp wrote:This is in no way a TC fault.

If I then open an Explorer window the program that I tried to start in TC runs fine.
I see nothing odd in Process Explorer. I've had a TC window minimized for the last 2 days, that's crashed but will not be killed.

Maybe you are running TC with higher user rights (elevated)? Then programs started from it will also run elevated. Some programs do not like to be run elevated.
Anyway, normal apps like TC cannot prevent task manager from killing programs, that would be a huge security risk. Only drivers can do that, and most virus scanners run as drivers.

Granted, (wish it were that easy) but this is NOT being run as admin.ghisler(Author) wrote:Maybe you are running TC with higher user rights (elevated)? Then programs started from it will also run elevated. Some programs do not like to be run elevated.
Also it's that I can not kill TC, not the program IT ran.
As a test I've installed V7 and so far (2 days) it's good.
As drivers or processes/services?ghisler(Author) wrote:Anyway, normal apps like TC cannot prevent task manager from killing programs, that would be a huge security risk. Only drivers can do that, and most virus scanners run as drivers.

Sorry, no other ideas - both TC7 and TC8 use the same function (ShellExecuteEx) to launch programs and open files.

I'm sure.ghisler(Author) wrote:Sorry, no other ideas - both TC7 and TC8 use the same function (ShellExecuteEx) to launch programs and open files.
FWIW, the 3 days I've been using V7.56 x86 (This os on a Win7 X64 system) hasn't crashed once. I'll keep posting only as I've like to have V9 installed and maybe I'll say something that'll point to SOMETHING wrong with the system.
Thanks for looking.
