Could you tell us which version of Shell32.dll you are using in Windows 98?

cd ::{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}
is not recommended. Why? This leads to the _virtual folder_ "My Documents". Many functions like zipping, synching etc. don't work with virtual folders. You should use something like
cd %userprofile%\my documents

instead. The name of "my documents" is different depending on your system language.

But unfortunately not for W98.
For me it works on W98 too.
Very strange. I use the same shell32.dll and it doesn't work. Moreover there isn't an entry "{450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103}" in my whole registry of w98.
norfie wrote: Yes. It's nice example. Two features of cd, which don't work in CL. :D
I can show you another example of cd that doesn't work at CL:

Code: Select all

cd Worl wide web
but it doesn't work as button or in directory hotlist either  :P

Hi Claude,

 Ooops, I used the search of regedit, but it seems I didn't use it well. I've got the same entry (while there is a >>>Classes>>> between Software and CLSID.
But cd :: {450D8FBA-AD25-11D0-98A8-0800361B1103} still does not work.

Friendly regards

Stefan

Try to reregister shell32.dll, maybe that helps.

Start-Run:
regsvr32 shell32.dll

I got this error message

"Shell32.dll was loaded but the DLLRegisterServer entry point was not found.
DLLRegisterServer may nort be exported, or a corrupt version of shell32.dll may be in memory Consider using PView to detect and remove it."

whatever it means

Maybe shell32.dll under 98 isn't suited for being reregistered, no Win 98 here to check.

I suggest that you compare the shell32.dll with one from a computer that has no problems, CRC value, something like that.

Do you have the latest Internet Explorer installed? That's essential for Windows 98 to operate fully functional.

Under XP you could do a simple sfc /scannow to restore corrupt system files, under Win 98 you have to exchange the shell32.dll under DOS if it was corrupted somehow...

It's identically with the shell32.dll from install cab (win98_40.cab) - TC compare by content.
