TC download File from USB stick: not enough space?

On a new phone, I installed TC and tried to access data on a USB stick. I can navigate to the file, TC offers to download, but then fails (not enough memory for a 1,4MB zip file)

What method do you use for downloading, e.g. LAN plugin, FTP plugin, or one of the cloud plugins?
