The version number of bugfix releases
ghisler(Author) has indicated that the next bugfix release of TC 9.1x will have version 9.10a ( http://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=333840#333840 )
Does it really need to be called 9.10a, I would prefer 9.11.
When you work with several versions of TC on the same PC, it is nice to be able to recognize the version of the TC files by their timestamp - that is not possible with "a" versions

The reason why I call it 9.10a: I want to prevent people from staying with 9.10. If I call it 9.11, they think that it's a completely new version with new features...

I don't think so - that would be the case if you called it 9.20 IMHOIf I call it 9.11, they think that it's a completely new version with new features...
There could also be the risk that people will thing that an a verison is not important or that it is a version for special use.
It is hard to know what people think, but most other software don't use a letter version strategy, so people are in general not familiar with it, wheras they are used to see that version changes on the second, third or fourth decimal just represent minor changes.
The psycholygy could also be the opposite. People might think: "No new features - no reason to upgrade, because the current version seems to work fine for me" - until they experince the bug themselves.
But - hard to know what people think - hence I saw the need for a poll.

I've read changelog and thought that I'm too lazy to update from 9.10 RC3 to 9.10a just because of few bugs that don't touch me.

I would prefer to recognize versions by TC version info... All betas and RCs and final have the same version... It would be nice to see e.g. version 9.0.0.1 for 9.0 beta1, 9.0.1.1 for 9.0 RC1 and 9.0.100 for 9.0 final... and then 9.10.1.1 for 9.10 rc1, 9.10.100.0 for 9.10 final etc...When you work with several versions of TC on the same PC, it is nice to be able to recognize the version of the TC files by their timestamp - that is not possible with "a" versions

OK, since no one seems to agree, I will release it as 9.11 - but this will certainly not be popular among U.S. users...

I think 9.20 would indicate new features.

Adding letter "a" to the version isn't new nor strange for TC users, it is used many times before, so why changing that now, specially with this number 9.11 viewtopic.php?t=48759
