Issue in History.txt
There are many "byte order marker" clauses in History.txt.
However, the official name is "byte order mark" (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Byte_order_mark).

Hmm, a Google search for "byte order marker" with double quotes seems to indicate that both variations are used.

In fact, you are right. However, "byte order mark" is more popular...
Also Microsoft prefers this term: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd374101.aspx

OK, I have changed it now in the help and history, although I think it's not really important.

History.txt is not updated to beta2 ?
Announcement: Total Commander 9.20 beta 2 available
https://www.ghisler.com/history920.txt
03.05.18 Release Total Commander 9.20 beta 1 (32/64)
I tried with to different browser to be sure it is no cache problem.

Thanks, it was a good decision - now I just realized, that every English dictionary contains a "question mark" phrase (not a "question marker" one).ghisler(Author) wrote:OK, I have changed it now in the help and history
All "byte order markers" are now corected in History.txt. Some last survivors left:
1) right to left marker (4x in History.txt - unicode.org, w3.org and Wikipedia use "right-to-left mark" - with dashes in the middle)
2) closing markers '--' than opening markers (this whole phrase - 1x in History.txt)
3) line break marker (1x in History.txt)
4) UTF-8 byte marker (1x in History.txt)
5) Unicode marker (1x in History.txt)

OK, changed them!
There are still two where I don't know whether I should change it or not, especially because it's contained in an option value:
12.11.10 Added: wincmd.ini [Configuration] SelectionMarker="* " set marker for selected lines in file lists
12.02.09 Fixed: Sorting header: Sorting marker temporarily disappears when Ctrl+Clicking on multiple headers
I would rather not change the SelectionMarker option, because it would break backward compatibility. But I could change the descriptions...

I think that it's correct now.
A "mark" word means "a letter" (example: question mark).
A "marker" word means "a visible sign of something" (example: closed door is a marker of a closed shop).
SelectionMarker="* " - it's not a single letter (because it is * and space) - so it's not a mark. It's a visible sign of a line in a file list - so it's a marker.
Sorting marker is a visible sign, telling that the column is sorted - so it's a marker.
Maybe a native English speaker could settle.
As for me - fixed.
