ftp proxy - help

Hi, in our company we have a Win 2003 small businessserver. Accordign to the IT-administrator they use a proxyserver, he told me the IP-adress and port for that like 192.168.###.### : 8080

With that information, how can I configure my ftp favorites?

Via CRTL-F - Edit - Use firewall (proxy server), there is many options, so far unknown to me. Do I need more info from the IT-administrator or what?

With IExplorer, I was able to connect to ftp-sites, but not with TC 6.02

the port :8080 indicates the http-port i.e. for websites. You need to know something like 2121. So you have to ask your admin for the FTP Port of the proxy.

it also culd be possible that the proxy is a "http proxy with ftp support". in this case you probably have to select the correct proxy type (ftp-connection / edit /change). additionally you´ll need the "passive mode" for the connection.

"http proxy with ftp support" is really not recommended, because HTTP proxies are verty limited, so you can't do things like creating directories or deleting files. Uploads and downloads will work, though.

Hi Ghisler, do you then have an alternative sugesstion?
So far i'm forced to use IExplorer for ftp downloads, and offcourse I would prefer TC

Ask your admin to give you the address of the FTP proxy or SOCKS proxy, or to install one.

Of course you can also use "http proxy with ftp support", I added it especially for companies who only have a HTTP server. But as i wrote, it's very limited. For simple up- and downloads it's OK, though.
