uLister is a powerful document viewer which can open more than 500 file formats by using the Oracle "Outside In Technology".
Supported files formats: Many popular word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, raster and vector image...
This plugin is freeware, but libraries from Oracle® are not, you must accept license.
See discussion thread "uLister" Post by *arax » Thu Jan 20, 2011: https://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=28413
It is reported that uLister works on Windows XP up to Win10.
Explanation here written are mostly taken from posts of users like milo1012, Dalai, Gral, Ovg, petermad and Horst.Epp. Thank you very much!
- Download uLister plugin 4.0.0 or newer from https://totalcmd.net/plugring/oilister.html
Use x64 or x32 depending on your Total Commander bit-version (bit architecture, see Help menu > About TC...)
Download "(x32)" for 32- or 64-bit TC, or the "x64 version" for a 64-bit TC.
Next browse with TC to the download folder, double click at the download "wlx_xxx.zip" and let install it.
The uLister-Plugin should be further up on the list of plugins to be the first to be taken. (or press '4'-key on keyboard while in Lister)
To configure the plugin itself, preview a file in uLister and right click on the viewer-window.
If wanted, configure TC-settings how to utilize the plugin:
norfie² wrote: Limit the plugin to file extension where uLister makes sense. for example

- Download Oracles files: ... you need to "(o)Accept License Agreement" AND sign-in or register.
There are many files to download, choose the "Viewer Technology" in newest version.
Viewer Technology 8.5.4 - Release Date: 09/27/2018 or newer >> Windows (x86-64) or/and Windows (x86-32)
Use 64- or 32-bit depending on your Total Commander bit-version (bit architecture)
Download "(x86-32)" for 32- or 64-bit TC, or download "(x86-64)" for a 64-bit TC.
Unpack the "vw-8-5-4-win-x86-XX.zip" and copy the "redist" folder to plugin folder like: totalcmd\Plugins\WLX\ulister (\redist)
- You may need to have installed Visual C++ 2013 (or newer? depending on the need of the Oracle download)
(or at least you need the VC++ DLLs (msvcr120.dll; msvcp120.dll) inside the uLister plugin folder?)
Download a VC++ Runtime version compatible with your OS from
It's reported that (at least for) Viewer Technology 8.5.3 and 8.5.4 uLister require Visual C++ 2013.
Direct link to VC++ RT 2013: https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=40784
Use x64 (64-bit) Runtimes for "Viewer Technology Windows (x86-64)
or x86 (32-bit) Runtimes for "Viewer Technology Windows (x86-32) , or just install both bit versions.
It doesn't hurt if you install every VC++RT version up from 2005, 2008, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015 till 2017
or newer and in both bit versions, different programs need different RTs, and they are not cumulative.
To check what you already have installed check Control Panel / Installed application:
|Windows XP and earlier:||Settings > Control Panel > "Add or Remove Programs" > "Change or Remove Programs" > "Currently installed programs and updates"-dialog|
|Windows Vista /7 /8 /10:||Control Panel > "Programs => Uninstall a program" > "(/Programs and Features/) Uninstall or change a program"-dialog|
|Windows 10:||Settings >" Apps (or System)" > "App & Features" -dialog|
You will be quicker in a DOS-Box (cmd.exe ; command line interpreter) with 'control' command or even quicker with 'appwiz.cpl' command.
Search there for "Microsoft Visual C++ Re-distributable" for example or something like that.
- Best, restart TC, just to be on the save side.
- It's reported you may need write access to the TC-folder itself (if it is installed in a protected "Program Files" folder.
- See "\vw-8-5-4-win-x86-XX\sdk\samplefiles\" -folder for first test files.
- To use uLister-Plugin press '4'-key on keyboard while in Lister window.
To configure the plugin itself, preview a file in uLister and right click on the Lister window.
- Here is a modified "ulister.ini" from our user milo1012 to demonstrate how to use the ini:

milo1012s' recompile of uLister to use both 32- and 64-bit > https://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=324284#p324284
I did a (unofficial) recompile of uLister, which uses separate DLL dirs for 32- and 64-bit
and therefore is able to work on a dual (32+64-bit) TC installation.
Just copy the OiT DLLs to the included sub-dir
redist32 for the 32-bit plugin
redist64 for the x64-Plugin

1. You got the 32-bit Oracle dlls, but use Total Commander 64-bit
2. You put them in the wrong directory. They belong in directory "redist" below the ulister directory
If you use combined TC 32-bit+64-bit, install ulister 32-bit and ulister 64-bit in two separate directories. Then put the 32-bit Oracle dlls in the "redist" directory of ulister 32-bit, and the 64-bit Oracle dlls in the "redist" directory of ulister 64-bit
Believe me, I read lots and lots and lots of documentation -- some repeatedly -- before I wrote to you. I realize I didn't give much info at first, so here's my situation:
• I have a Windows 32-bit machine, so of course I downloaded vw-8-5-4-win-x86-32.zip from Oracle.
• uLister is at C:\Program Files\TotalCmdr9.2\Plugins\uLister.
• Within that folder is redist, sdk, makedemo.bat, uLister.ini, uLister.wlx, and some readmes.
• The redist folder has 226 files, and sdk has six subfolders.
Since doc and xls files were still appearing with binary info, I tried the following:
• I closed TC and opened it again.
• I went in to Configuration Options Plugins and looked at the Lister Plugins. uLister.wlx is there and in the correct place.
• I looked back over the documentation.
• I deleted the files and reinstalled them.
• I went back in to the Configuration Options dialog, removed uLister and added it again.
Some of the above I did more than once. But even after all of these efforts, I'm still getting binary when I view doc and xls files.
Oh, wait a second! I just realized.....I'm using WIndows XP. Is that supported?
You might need Visual C++ Runtimes for the Oracle Viewer stuff. If I had found a valid download source for the Oracle Viewer thingy I would have told you which VC++ version exactly it needs. But I'm not going to create an Oracle account just for this.
Just read milo1012's post (linked to by Ovg) and he said it requires VC++ 2013, so that's what I would start with
Perhaps try pressing "4" while the binary view is shown?
If you use the OiT DLLs 8.5.3 or newer, which requires the VC 2013 runtimes, then no, it's not supported. So that is probably the culprit in your case.
VC++ Runtimes are listed in Control Panel > Software as "Microsoft Visual C++ 2013 Redistributable (x86)" for example. BTW that's the version you need. Just download and install it.
Also, you say, "that's the version you need. Just download and install it." What's the version I need? Don't know what you're referring to.
The pack I downloaded and installed from Oracle is vw-8-5-4-win-x86-32.zip.
