Cannot access the file from an encrypted archive after an invalid password
1. Run WinRAR and here Options / Settings… / Compression / Create default… / Set password…
2. Select option „Encrypt file names“
3. Close WinRAR
4. Run Total Commander and here Configuration / Options… / Packer
5. In RAR section fill valid path (default is „C:\Program Files\WinRAR\WinRAR.exe“) and select option „Use internal un-RAR if possible“
6. Now create and encrypted RAR archive inside TC (ALT+F5)
7. Close TC and run it again
8. Click on created RAR archive
9. Fill valid password and check option „Remember…“
10. You can now access all files inside RAR archive
11. Leave this RAR archive open in one pane and minimize and maximize again TC window
12. Try view/edit any file inside RAR archive
13. Fill invalid password!
14. Now will appear warning message „Disk read error!“ every time, when you will try view/edit previous selected (with invalid password) file inside RAR archive. You must close TC, open it again and fill valid password.
PS: I'm not sure if all of these steps are needed, but the problem is reproduced this way.

Re: Cannot access the file from an encrypted archive after an invalid password
Me guess the right question is missing from your steps?
"why don't a valid password works (w/o TC restart) after I entered once a invalid password?"
Right? (just a guess, I didn't tried it myself, just curious)

Re: Cannot access the file from an encrypted archive after an invalid password
Not so exactly, because TC does not offer me the second opportunity to enter the valid password (until I close TC and run it again).

Re: Cannot access the file from an encrypted archive after an invalid password
The password is forgotten when you minimize TC, for security reasons. I will check why you aren't asked again. You may have to exit and re-enter the archive.

But exit and re-enter the archive will also not help, only closing the TC and run it again.

Re: Cannot access the file from an encrypted archive after an invalid password
It's because the archive name list is cached. You could enter a different archive and then again this archive as a workaround until I find a solution.

Re: Cannot access the file from an encrypted archive after an invalid password
This should be fixed in Total Commander 9.22 release candidate 1, please test it!

I confirm the fix in current TC 9.22a and Windows 10.

I don't know how this is possible (Probably some Windows 10 update? I have Windows 10 Pro 1803 Build 17134.829 and WinRAR v5.71, both 64bit), but this problem is back in the current v9.22a last few days!

Re: Cannot access the file from an encrypted archive after an invalid password
I am not using WinRAR, but Windows 10 Pro.
Maybe it already helps to check the Windows updates (WIN + i, "Update and Security", "Check for updates")
and install further updates?

Re: Cannot access the file from an encrypted archive after an invalid password
I'm sorry, but I'm in the corporate environment (red warning "*Some settings are managed by your organization") and I can't install updates myself.

Have you looked through the "Kb articles" that have been published since then?

You could also try it with a TC_clean.ini (32 bit and 64 bit).
I'm out of here then because I don't use WinRAR.
Regards,
Karl
