[Solved][TC 9.21a ] Quick Search "CTRL+ALT+o" no action


If CTRL + ALT enabled , the combination CTRL + ALT + o ( it's "o" like "omnia" not zero number) doesn't works , no action detected.

CTRL+ALT+O : works
CTRL+ALT+o : no action

This is a common issue as a forum search shows, other members have already provide a lot of how-to's according to this.


Often Graphic card application (or other programs in some cases) have shortcuts set the user is not aware of.

Solution for this:

Click in Nvidia GeForce Experience, top right at "Share your greatest gaming moments", now Settings (the "Gears"-sign), next to "Keyboard shortcuts"

In der Geforce Experience oben rechts auf das Dreieck ("Teilen Sie die aufregendsten Spielmomente") klicken.
Jetzt rechts auf die Zahnräder klicken um Einstellungen zu ändern. Dort gibt es den Eintrag "Tastenkombinationen".

Shortcut Key Explorer shows shortcuts which are set in Windows shortcut (.lnk) files located on the Windows Desktop,
the Windows Start Menu (and maybe the Quick Launch).
It doesn't help in finding hotkeys that are registered by any other program.
IMO the program should be removed from this list.

Also yesterday I've guessed why I can't use Alt+R for quick search... HotKeysList tool confirmed that it is registered by some process.
After 10-15 minutes of killing processes I finally found who have registered it and altered its settings.

This can happen when another program or a driver registers hotkeys for itself system-wide.
An infamous example is the NVIDIA GeForce Experience driver.
You can change/remove all these hotkeys by pressing Alt+Z and clicking on the cogwheel icon.

I found it! For anybody else that needs help with this, its in the "Geforce Experience" software
- click the "Share" button - then the "Settings" - lastly the "keyboard shortcuts" then just click click a new button you like change it to,

Oh sorry, finally I found the problem... 1password app is doing that, probably last actualization took this shortcut,
when I kill 1password, Ctrl+\ works as before

I hate programs which reserve hotkeys system-wide without asking the user!
The worst offender is the NVIDIA GeForce experience. At least you can remap them via Alt+Z...

and I could see that the shortcut was taken by another program (unfortunately not which one).

I looked hereafter for newly installed programms and found the "sinner" and disabled Ctrl+Q. Now it works again in TC

In my case, it was nvidia experience. (Even though it was stopped!!).
I needed to run it, get into settings and disable in-game overlay.
Then shortcuts again started to work. Stupid nvidia.

Hallo!
Es ist mir ein völliges Rätsel: Plötzlich reagiert der TC x64 9.51 nicht mehr auf die Funktionstasten
(z. B. F5 - Datei kopieren oder F6 - Datei verschieben).
Mit der Tastatur hat es nichts zu tun, denn in anderen Programmen funktionieren die Funktionstasten einwandfrei.
Nach dem Update auf Version 9.51 haben sie auch noch funktioniert, aber plötzlich nicht mehr.
Die Schaltflächen unten im TC zu F3 bis F8 funktionieren aber.
Woran kann das liegen?

.. Schuld ist diese bescheuerte Logitech-Tastatur G213.
Da hat wohl ein Softwareupdate dies versemmelt.
Bin wieder zu meiner Challenger Gaming-Tastatur zurück, und alles ist gut.

CTRL+ALT+o : no action

Ctrl+Alt+o is equivalent to AltGr+o and for many keyboard layouts it's just a letter. For example, in "Polish (programmers)" and in "English (international)" layouts it's a letter ó, LATIN SMALL LETTER O WITH ACUTE.
So what keyboard layout do you use? You can use system On Screen Keyboard (osk.exe) to view current keyboard mapping.

"enabled" means set the option CTRL + ALT inside Configuration -> Options -> Quick Search section.

Yes, it worked with "O" capital letter.

Of course.
I used RAMRush (memory optimizer).
I don't remember if in the past I set myself "CTRL+ATL+o" as shortcut to activate it (may be it is a shortcut set by default when installed),
but I solved removing that shortcut.

Total Commander has a lot of software inside, I believe that tools that uses (a lot of) shortcuts could have a kind of "shortcut conflict warning" mechanism to avoid conflict like this.

Not possible, at least not in an easy way. Shortcuts may be registered system-wide, or even in an application running elevated (as administrator). In the latter case it's impossible to determine if a certain keyboard shortcut is already registered by another application. You'd need a driver that (also) checks system-wide, which is exactly what Windows Hotkey Explorer does.
