Post by *Mauro72 »

Please help me.

the program appears:

TOTALCMD provocó un error de página no válida en el

Always is the same adress: 0187:bff98adb
This error appears in many versions of total commander so not is a problem of the last version 6.03A.
This error, i don't know..., start to appears after install nforce 2 drivers and GeForce 4 video drivers. May be this 2 installations replace somes DLLs and is the reasons of the error.
Oh... the system is Win98OSR2 and after view the DLLs imported for Total Commander the DLLs are the same of Win98OSR2 original.
Please help me with this problem.
Thanks.

Online VirusScan

Upload totalcmd.exe and kernel32.dll for a decent check.

According to Christian Ghisler(Author) it could be an error in the graphic driver, see german forum http://ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=31296

He says something like this:
It could very well be due to bugs in the graphics driver - some few graphic drivers can not deal with programs written in Delphi.
You could try to:
- Start in Safe mode
or
- change graphic driver to Standard VGA driver
If the error does not occur anymore, the error is almost certain caused by the graphic driver.

According to @ghisler the address points to another program (or a plugin) because TC adresses all begin with 04 .

:) Hi !
¤ "Are you sure" (like M$ says…) that a clever hidden virus is not active somewhere ?
* Some kinds of malware can't be found by Windows-scanners; please, have a look in the Tutorial >>> FAQ >> Also from the Forum.
* Just an idea…

What happens when you start TC without using your current ini file. For example like this:
"C:\Program Files\Total Commander\TOTALCMD.EXE" /i="c:\doesnotexist.ini"

total commander works OK!. I don't know.
Ooops... in a two or three times (no more) the total commander start
Ok in my PC, but i try to run 30 - 50 times to work 1 time.

Maybe you should use a uncracked version or a better crack? Download the Version from www.ghisler.com and give it a try.

I think he tried a legal version of TC.

I do not think the problem is related to Total Commander. Maybe it is caused by a hardware failure. Defective memory or overheated graphics card, something like that.

I have searched with Google for the address bff98adb, the error seems indeed to be related to a display area of the kernel. It seems that the kernel tries to call a function which doesn't exist.

This can happen for example if a display driver replaces a DLL which is meant for a different operating system, e.g. it installs a Windows 2000 DLL on Windows XP. This explains why the error also occurs with VGA mode, because in VGA mode Windows will also use the replaced DLL. You should try to find out what DLLs are in the Nvidia driver package, and try to restore the originals from your Windows CD.

SHEEPDOG, The total commander is the original program from the
ghisler download sites and i don't run any crack.
WHITE, I have run many test of memory module, mothers, vga
and all is OK, so hardware failure don't exist.
GHISLER, first: thanks for your support. But my friend has the
same graphics card and drivers in WIN98SE and works OK.
I don't know, i don't know... But i try to update NVIDIA drivers
to the last version.

You may have a mix of two driver versions, so the current driver looks for a function in a DLL, but this DLL is from a different version, so the function is missing. Reinstalling the driver may help, but it's not guaranteed.

Hi again,
GHISLER, the nvidia drivers update don't work, so the problem is
a big problem now.
A question: in the trace of total commander with for example
Filemon the program always try to load a file SQLIAD.DLL and
this dll is strange and not exist in my PC. I'm searching in the
internet but the file appears in a few forum sites, no sites
with good information and download links.
I don't know... is the first problem without a solution for me,
may be a new windows installation, but this is for a people with
a few experience and i want to FIND THE PROBLEM.
Thanks.
