I get a random sound once and again on Windows 10!
Hi,
I've installed Total Commander 32+64-bit 9.22a version on my Windows 10 just yesterday, all sounds with windows audio settings relating to TC are set to None, but I do get a sound when copying files for example.
But, I get a random sound once and again, without anything changing anywhere, for example even right now writing this message I got a sound that must come from TC, it's always the same sound, which in windows is called "Windows Background.wav"
I have no idea what's triggering it within TC.
Looking forward to your replies,
Thanks

Re: Random sounds, Windows 10
When exactly do you get a sound when copying? So far I can only reproduce it when aborting the F5 copy dialog with ESC, and only in the 64-bit version.

Re: Random sounds, Windows 10
I use the 64-bit version and it happens when a copying process has been completed, but when TC is minimized and I'm doing something else, it can happen, although since I restarted TC it happens much more rarely now

What is your setting for custom sounds?
TC- Menu -> Configuration -> Options... -> Misc.
Custom Sounds:
[_] Only Play for long operations : > [10]s
If this is checked you will get a confirmation sound at the end of the operation which takes longer than 10 s while TC is in background.
Even if you did not configure a special sound via "Control panel - sound and multimedia section 'Total Commander'"

Re: Random sounds, Windows 10
I have checked it in my code: A foreground operation only creates a sound if one has been configured via
Configuration - Options - Misc.
A background operation creates a default MessageBeep if no sound has been configured.
So there are two ways to prevent a beep after a background operation:
1. Set a high value for "Only Play for long operations"
or
2. Set an empty sound for copy operations.

Re: Random sounds, Windows 10
How did option 1 make it worse? Maybe the operation took longer than 99 seconds?

This is a known bug caused by a recent Windows 10 security update. It happens after you visit a virtual folder like the desktop, network neighbourhood etc. To get rid of it, try going to a normal directory in both panels, then close and re-open Total Commander.

Re: I get a random sound once and again on Windows 10!
My TC 'bleeped' (loud!) after every search.
Solution was to go to the sound settings, change the sound from "None" to something different and back to "None".
After that all was good in the world again
