Back button not working as expected (was about thinning + HistoryCut)

That's probably caused by the new way the history is stored. Try disabling history thinning, and also add HistoryCut=1 to [Configuration] section in your wincmd.ini. This will return the behavior to the pre-9.50 one.

This isn't a bug. It's a unification of behaviour (which btw has nothing to do with history thinning).
In TC 9.22a, when you went back in the history via button bar "<-" or Alt+Cursor left, and then switched to a diferent directory, the entire history behind that point was lost. That's how it also works in a Web browser. But Total Commander isn't a Web browser, it's a file manager. Losing the previously visited directories is not nice.
Also in TC 9.22a, if you picked a directory from the dropdown history (triangle button or Alt+Cursor down) put that directory at the end of the history. So when you then went to a different directory, the history wasn't lost.

TC 9.50 tries to unify this: when you go to a previous directory via button bar "<-" or Alt+Cursor left, and then go somewhere else, that new directory is appended to the history so the history beyond that location isn't lost any more. This is more similar to what happens when you use the dropdown history in TC 9.22a or 9.50.

It's not about bugs. It's a story about misunderstandings with history and its thinning turned on by default, already reported in many topics. If you don't want to turn thinning off by default, you should at least describe the feature and navigation in directory history in Help.

As Christian explained, it's not history thinning. In my post I mentioned it, only because from the first message it wasn't clear enough, which of the two new history features Mike_T disliked.

But I agree that the default new way of storing entries should be explained in the help. There are many questions about it on the Russian forums too.

I don't know if it has anything to do with the messages above, but in the new version the behaviour of browsing through directories is changed very annoying. Eg a directory tree:
Dir A
>>Subdir Aa
Dir B
>> Subdir Bb
Dir C
>> Subdir Cc

Example of a flow in the previous version:
- Root
- To: subdir Aa
- Back button on my mouse: back to root
- To: subdir Bb
- Back button on my mouse: back to root
- To: subdir Cc
- Back button on my mouse: back to root

That's the way Microsoft File Explorer works too.

In 9:50:
- Root
- To: subdir Aa
- Back button on my mouse: back to root
- To: subdir Bb
- Back button on my mouse: back to Aa
- Back button on my mouse: back to root
- To: subdir Cc
- Back button on my mouse: back to Bb
- Back button on my mouse: back to Aa
- Back button on my mouse: back to root

Or maybe you see the bug of "HistoryLenStored=" spotted in TC9.50?
