Blinking cursor disappears after selecting from copy dropdown with keyboard
Hello,
Thank you so much for adding dark mode capability to TC! I just wanted to point out a minor issue.... Often I need to copy a file to another folder and name it similar to an existing file or subdirectory in that folder. The screenshots below document my steps to reproduce how the blinking cursor disappears once I arrow down to the drop down and then try to backspace to edit the file name.
Step 1: Drag from one pane to the other or F5

Step 2: Highlight with mouse the filename portion of the path, then press the first letter of existing filename. Red arrow shows where cursor is.

Step 3: Arrow down to existing file. (This example is simplistic, but I usually am dealing with half a dozen lengthy names.)
Image: https://overlin.us/images/TC_screenshot3.png
Step 4: [Dark mode] Backspace to change end of filename to something unique. Moving the cursor left or right with the arrow keys moves the cursor, but it is invisible. Current cursor location is indicated by the red arrow.

vs. Step 4: [Light mode] Exact same sequence, but this time in light mode, the cursor remains visible under the red arrow.

Step 5: [Work-around] Click off of the dropdown and then in the filename box or type a letter, and the cursor will reappear.

Again this is a minor issue, but just a change / slight annoyance in my workflow that I thought might be easily addressable.
Thanks,
David

Re: Blinking cursor disappears after selecting from copy dropdown with keyboard
Unfortunately the cursor is drawn by Windows itself, and it seems to blink a black cursor on and off here. To my knowledge, it's not possible to change the cursor color programmatically.

The same blinking/flickering exists in all edit fields where auto-complete feature is enabled.

Thank you for the explanation! That makes sense that it is a Windows system issue instead.

Will this flickering be fixed in any way? Currently auto-complete is completely unusable in dark mode.Usher wrote: 2019-11-25, 12:48 UTC The same blinking/flickering exists in all edit fields where auto-complete feature is enabled.

So maybe auto-complete should be turned off for dark mode in older Windows?

Re: Blinking cursor disappears after selecting from copy dropdown with keyboard
Certainly not! You can still pick names from the list by going up/down with the cursor. Then press ESC before trying to edit the name.

It works, but flickering may cause epilepsy seizure.

You can turn off auto-complete in the settings if you have a problem with epilepsy.

It's not a solution.
You should either block flickering or add epilepsy warning. It's not my personal problem, it's a legal matter.

On XP in dark mode command line's combo with auto complete is blinking as hell, and it's white there anyway (not sure whether it's like that because of blinking; UPD: it's blinking which makes it white). I sent a short video today to support email from my gmail address - please let me know whether you received it, if not I'll upload the video and will send a link to it.

I can confirm in TC 9.50a RC1 this fixed the blinking I've seen on XP. I'm not sure though was it the same one reported above by overlind or Usher...history950a.txt wrote:09.02.20 Fixed: Dark mode: Auto-complete was flickering heavily on Windows XP (32)

Re: Blinking cursor disappears after selecting from copy dropdown with keyboard
1. Seems to work OK now in XP - in command line and in button bar editing. Any more places to test with autocomplete enabled?
2. The background for autocomplete is black. Is it possible to use the same color for autocomplete as for the background in TC in both normal and dark mode?
3. Note about autocomplete list: it shows names unordered, which means that sometimes the needed name may be close to the end of a very long list. For the command line quick search may be more useful in such cases - it uses sort order from active TC pane.
