Typing errors in help file.
There are a few typing errors in the help (F1). I assumed that the spelling is US-English, so e.g. color and not colour.
Re: Typing errors in help file.
Not so many…
BTW. If you want to create a list using BB code, you should tag every list element.
FTP is spelled ef-te-pe. Do you read it in other way? Do you think Wikipedia is wrong?

Re: Typing errors in help file.
No, this is correct. There are some exceptions to the rule of writing "an" instead of "a" or vice versa. When saying it out loud, "FTP" starts with a vowel, although it doesn't when written. In contrast, "USB" doesn't start with a vowel when saying it out loud, although it does in written form. So it's correct to write "an FTP ..." and "a USB device".vdijken wrote: 2020-02-12, 15:23 UTCan ftp connection ==> a ftp connection (several times)

Re: Typing errors in help file.
I agree on the expressionan ftp server. And there is an other fundamental spelling issue: spaces. In German you write words together like Eisenbahn-knotenpunkthinundherschieber. But a proper English spell checker (like the one the browser uses when I write this) will tell you that you should write bug fix or bug-fix and not bugfix; plug in or plug-in and not plugin; and there are more such words in the help file.
Re: Typing errors in help file.
It seems both spellings are possible, in both cases:

At least, well, if Wikipedia is seen as a reliable source.

I will check it, thanks. Unfortunately it was too late for Total Commander 9.50a Release Candidate 1.

Re: Typing errors in help file.
I have checked the entire list now - I will keep "an ftp" and "centered", otherwise I agree with the corrections except for one:
Referer -> Referrer. While the latter is the correct English word, the (misspelled) term here is referer:
header: Referer: http://www.source.com send additional headers like a referer
See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HTTP_referer

Wikipedia wrote:Etymology
The misspelling of referrer originated in the original proposal by computer scientist Phillip Hallam-Baker to incorporate the field into the HTTP specification.[4] The misspelling was set in stone by the time of its incorporation into the Request for Comments standards document RFC 1945; document co-author Roy Fielding has remarked that neither "referrer" nor the misspelling "referer" were recognized by the standard Unix spell checker of the period.[5] "Referer" has since become a widely used spelling in the industry when discussing HTTP referrers; usage of the misspelling is not universal, though, as the correct spelling "referrer" is used in some web specifications such as the Document Object Model.

I think you should fix it in other way to make thing more clear and conforming to the standard:
send additional header fields, for example Referer
BTW. At least one more example will be welcome.

Re: Typing errors in help file.
Seeing that we're talking English in this thread, may I suggest that every reference to "...allows to.." in Total Commander documentation and Help be changed? 'Allows to' is simply not a valid English expression.
The alternative corrections are '...allows you to...' or a re-construction in passive voice.
The active voice generally used by Author Ghisler should be, for example:
'Background transfer manager
Opens a separate window, which allows you to copy, move, or download files in the background.'
In passive voice:
'Background transfer manager
Opens a separate window, which allows the copying, moving, or downloading of files in the background.'
HTH
[For that matter, every reference to 'spell checker' in the universe should be changed to 'spelling checker', gerund and noun. Spell is a verb (not widely known in the USA) and 'spelling' is a noun-verb, like 'swimming', that describes the type of checker. I appreciate that this may take some time.]

Usually the shorter version is preferred.Phred wrote: 2020-02-19, 05:54 UTC The active voice generally used by Author Ghisler should be, for example:

Wrong. Spellchecker is a program, see dictionary definition:Phred wrote: 2020-02-19, 05:54 UTC For that matter, every reference to 'spell checker' in the universe should be changed to 'spelling checker', gerund and noun. Re: Typing errors in help file.
I didn't find any reference to "spelling checker" whatsoever, not on Wikipedia, not on LEO (spell checker) - but as you can see, "spell checker" (and spell-checker) is there.Phred wrote: 2020-02-19, 05:54 UTC[For that matter, every reference to 'spell checker' in the universe should be changed to 'spelling checker', gerund and noun.
Now we are nit-picking, because "spell" is a verb and also a noun like in "I put a spell on you".Spell is a verb (not widely known in the USA)

Why not shorten it a litle bit more:Opens a separate window, which allows the copying, moving, or downloading of files in the background.

In that case we should lose the "of".Why not shorten it a litle bit more:
Opens a separate window, which allows copying, moving, or downloading of files in the background.'
