Bug? - Deleting of locked files takes ages

Hello,
I just would like to know if the following behaviour is problem
on my computer only or it is a general problem of TotalCommander.

When I try to delete the file which is locked by another application
then TC tries to delete this file and stops responding for a vely long
time. Then it realizes that it is not possible to delete it and displays
the error message.

Is this behaviour same on your computer?

PS: I am usign the version 6.03a on WinXP SP2. But this problem
exists in olderv ersion as well.

Is Explorer behaving the same? If yes, then is should be a system problem.
I cannot confirm this, i get the error immediately.

When I use Delete in Explorer then it takes cca 5 secs to display
the error message.
In TC it takes 10 secs.

When I use Shift+Delete in Explorer the error message pops out
immediately. The same is in TC when I disable "Del deletes to Recycle Bin".

So it seems that TC ignores the first error and re-tries for the second
time?

Yes, this is a known behaviour in TC when deleting to the recycle bin. If the first delete fails, TC tries to delete the file directly.

Hmm, I understand that the main problem is in Windows
(and it is a pitty that it is not known where to adjust this timeout).

But your answer doesn't explain the time duplication
and if my poor German is right, than the same question was asked
at the end of the thread you pointed me to).

When TC tries for the first time, it gets 5 secs timeout. OK.
But then when it fails and TC re-tries to delete it directly
then there should be no additional timeout as in TC the direct
delete reports the error immediately.
So where from comes the second 5 secs delay?

Interesigly enough this question was also brought up in that thread. Ghisler seems to use the SHFileOperation() twice, but actually there was no satisfactory answer to this question.
