Problematic filtering in Synchronize Dirs

Post by *Vacilando »

I have a serious problem with the synchronizing tool. Although there is a filter , and despite the fact that one can synchronize directories as well , the filter function does not filter directories :(. That makes the whole tool much less valuable.

Example: I have a large local website mirror that I need to keep up to date with the FTP location. However, the local version contains many files that should not be uploaded and also directories whose content is not supposed to be uploaded. All such files and directories contain a unique string (it happens to be tilde) so that I can filter them. That works OK in the manual mode, but not recursively for the whole site, and that is why I need the Synchronize Dirs tool.

However, in the Synchronize Dirs tool I can only use simple filtering...

I thought about two solutions:

1) Select "Also select directories" in preferences.. but it does not have the desired effect in the Synchronize Dirs tool.

2) Use predefined filters -- but they are not implemented in Synchronize Dirs.

Any way to achieve this? Or do I have to wait for such feature in the future - when?

I am at the point of buying a TC licence but this problem may mean I have to keep looking for other solution..

You can do one of the following:
1. Select the subdirs you want to sync BEFORE you call the sync tool
2. Filter dirs in the sync filter. The syntax is:
*.* | somedir1\ somedir2\
to exclude somedir1 and somedir2 in any subdir or the root.

This will also work with wildcards, e.g.
*.* | _vti*\

It certainly is. I have just done the purchase.

I wish all software was developed as responsibly as this one... really suiting users' needs.

Cheers!
