I've been using Total Commander for a long time, and one of the things I've always wished that TC had has been a proper "version sort" sorting algorithm.
FYI, version sorting means that numbers are sorted in the order humans understand them, instead of alphabetically. I know it's considerably more resource-intensive, so I think it should remain as an option.
Also, I think that Total Commander should have other sorting algorithms to choose from as well.
ls(1) man page wrote:
-v Sort directory contents according to the files' version. This takes into account the fact that filenames frequently include indices or version numbers. Standard sorting functions usually do not produce the ordering that people expect because comparisons are made on a character-by-character basis. The version sort addresses this problem, and is especially useful when browsing directories that contain many files with indices/version numbers in their names.
Total Commander Help Index b. INI-File settings: wincmd.ini, wcx_ftp.ini (for FTP) wrote:SortUpper=0 0: Default sort method
1: When sorting files, put files starting with an underscore _ last
2: Uses mixed lexical and numerical sorting, e.g. file10.txt comes AFTER file1.txt

• It's the same with accented characters in French and other languages…
- I know that there is another old thread about this, but the Search gave me *peanuts*

Hi Claude,
try search 'natural sorting', there I had 11 hits. Maybe the one you search is with them.

Hi Stefan !
- Thanks, it was just to give more infos to integor about special characters in natural sorting, though I don't know if he needs them in the "Earth"-language
- So, he knows the right keywords for this now.
