Can't insert
When I press the insert key, the directory or file under the cursor is not marked. Any suggestions? Thanks.
A lot of reasons--

Hello !
• Did you remap some hotkey in Configuration >> Options>> Miscellaneous with the [Insert] key ?
• An external program could have remaped some keys, and made the [Insert] key inactive…
• If you are running Win-XP, there are some awful Win settings which could change the keys using… I can't test at this moment, my workstation under XP is turned off (and far in the house
…)
- Please, generally, give us more infos : Win and TC versions, hardware in brief, thanks.
Kind regards,
Claude

• In Configuration >> Options>> Operation : what mouse-button is enabled for the selection ? Try to use the left-button option. When I press the insert key, the directory or file under the cursor is not marked

Re: Can't insert
Did you try the insert key on Numpad (it's zero if [Num] is deaktivated).jmccrary wrote:When I press the insert key, the directory or file under the cursor is not marked. Any suggestions? Thanks.
I tried to change mouse button as Clo suggested, but it has no effect.
My Idea is that's maybe a hardware-bug. To exclude type the command 'edit'. there should open a dos window with the old DOS-editor. Now type a few characters and go in between them with the cursor. Now type another character. then press 'ins' and type another one. By toggling 'Ins' one time the character you type should be inserted and the second time it should overwrite the following chars.

indeed, the simple solution.
Sometimes I can only think the complicated way.

Remapped---

Hi !
- This is an interesting info; it should mean that a program "X" has remapped the key. Nice to know what program is able to do this …

There is probably 2 times a month the question: Why doesn' work [alt]+[F5]anymore.
We know: It's the ATI - graphics software.

The problem is probably related to IE6 recently installed on Win98SE. The insert key did not work, so I saved out a reg file, merged an older regfile (from before th IE6 install) and then re-merged the IE6 reg file. Insert then worked properly.- With the info from jmccrary if he could get and give it (it's 10:30 AM or so currently at jmccrary's…Neutral )
Not @ home…

Hello !
• Thank you for that info. It's odd, because I've IE6 under Win98 SE (Fr), and the {Insert} key has never posed any problem; I use IE6 through MyIE2 in a PC, and directly in another oldie with the same OS; no problem with that key… I've IE6 / French, indeed, as an upgrade since March, 2003 or so.

Claude
