Internal ZIP packer-how to associate with a new extension?

Hi and thanks for reading my post!

I use the internal ZIP packer for zips (*.zip) and I would like to use it also for another extension (which is also a simple zip). Cannot figure out a way to do that
Could anybody smarter kindly hint or advice me, pls?

If you are packing, just give the file a different extension.


If you are unpacking, good news. TC doesn't really care about the extension that much. If you want to "go into" an archive with a non-standard extension (assuming the actual archive type is supported by TC), just press [CTRL]+[PageDown] on the archive file.

From the "Keyboard layout" section of the help (which you can open with F1):

CTRL+PgDn Open directory/archive (also self extracting .EXE archives)

Any archive type supported by TC or any packer plugin can be opened/entered with Ctrl+PageDown, even if it is not associated with anything. To support searching in archives, you need to add the appropriate extensions to SearchInFiles option in wincmd.ini; see TC's help, section 4.b for more information. Here's an example from my wincmd.ini:

For anybody googling this thread, you can also change the icon of the file to the regular package icon. It can be found in the TOTALCMD.EXE.

I ran into the same problem due to having to rename zip files as *.123 to send to customers or received from customers in email.
I found that if I use the open command **zip then TC will treat it the same as a *.Zip file
