network shares from Windows XP computer not in \ menu
Under Windows 10 in Total Commander when I select the \ button to access network shares (network neighborhood) my shares on a Windows XP computer don't appear. AFAIK It has nothing to do with SMB V1 (I enabled that in Windows 10 'settings') as I am able to make shortcuts to the network shares of that Windows XP computer under the * menu and happily access them. I would be really happy if I can just find that Windows XP computer under the \ menu. Any ideas how to solve this ?
Re: network shares from Windows XP computer not in \ menu
Can you see your shares on the Windows XP computer in Windows Explorer on you Windows 10 computer? - because I can't (hence not in TC either).
Here, my Window XP computer can be seen from my Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 computers, but not from my Windows 10 computer.
On my Windows XP computer on the other hand I can see my Windows 7, Windows 8.1 AND my Windows 10 computer.
I think that I used to be able to see my Windows XP computer from my Windows !0 computer, but I am not quite sure, and don't remember when it changed (if it did)

yes I can. you need to enable smbv1 in Windows10. See this link: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-access-files-network-devices-using-smbv1-windows-10petermad wrote: 2020-11-16, 13:36 UTC Can you see your shares on the Windows XP computer in Windows Explorer on you Windows 10 computer? - because I can't (hence not in TC either).

Thanks - that worked - I can now see my Windows XP computer from my Windows 10 computer. If i doubleclick on the computername for my Windows XP computer, I can se the shared folders along with [lpc$], [print$] and Printer. But TC's function "Net" -> "Show Admin Shares" does not have any effect as it does for my other PC's (Windows 7, 8.1 and 10).you need to enable smbv1 in Windows10. glad I could help !petermad wrote: 2020-11-18, 03:23 UTC Thanks - that worked - I can now see my Windows XP computer from my Windows 10 computer.
I looked up what NET-> Show Admin Shares is for but that is something you normally don't need. That only shows hidden shares like C$ and D$. What you should do is click the \ button that you only see when you enable configuration/layout/show drive buttons and that will list the computers in your network and THAT is where my problem is with ! There I see every network computer but NOT the Windows XP computer. I have added a shortcut to \\windowsxpcomputer\c in the * menu and that works but it is not as handy as directly with the \ button. Maybe the Author Christian Ghisler can step in and help ?petermad wrote: 2020-11-18, 03:23 UTC If i doubleclick on the computername for my Windows XP computer, I can se the shared folders along with [lpc$], [print$] and Printer. oh it must be something on my Windows XP computer then. Anyone knows what could cause it not to show up under the \ menu while it DOES show up with entering the \\name\drivepetermad wrote: 2020-11-18, 13:35 UTCThat also was the case for me until the smbv1 fix - now I see my XP computer too. There I see every network computer but NOT the Windows XP computer

What is the name of the network on your XP phone - Microsoft sets it to MSHOME by default, maybe it helps setting it to WORKGROUP, that at least what I use.oh it must be something on my Windows XP computer then. Re: network shares from Windows XP computer not in \ menu
Thanks. that setting was already identical to yours. I don't believe it is any of the Windows10 settings as the Windows XP computer is reachable through the normal windows explorer in windows 10, just NOT through the \ menu in Total Commander. It IS through a shortcut in TC leading to \\windowsxpcomputer\sharenamepetermad wrote: 2020-11-21, 00:54 UTC 2maicod
