few things looking for after using it.
1. explorer has no context menu to add two folders to compare. currently if I wish to compare 2 folders, I'd have to open up total commander, and navigate each left and right side to the folder manually, instead of be able to rightclick folder and add/view in total commander when im already there in explorer and add it to a compare list or something. I tried looking into options in TC dont find anything.
2. with how browsers and window is nowadays, including all other OS. clicking on the path and instantly being able to edit/type but for TC it seems it forces a wait 1 second for user to be able ot start typing, what is up with that? at least give user options to turn it off.
3. similar to point 2.. but context menu within TC, need to rightclick hold it and wait 2 seconds, why not instant?

Re: total commander missing few key features?
1. It is rather an Explorer problem.
Seriously, it may be done via a shell extension.
2. You can disable breadcrumb bars for easier editing path, but it will still take about 0.5-1s for path to become editable. Or you can bind cm_EditPath to a shortcut.
3. Because right click by default selects or deselects files. You can switch to left mouse button selection mode if you really want instant context menu, but right button selection mode is much more powerful. And, you can open context menu instantly via Application button on your keyboard (or any assigned shortcut).

Re: total commander missing few key features?
it is a great software, I think with many things such as explorer, browser in general setting the bar, it becomes very un-intuitive to have to wait 0.5 to 1 second for anything to come up or have to use of different "keys" or mouse clicks. given that total commander has a lot of features seem to be meant for power user, but then again forcing a certain way of using it without giving options is doing the exact opposite, dont you think?MVV wrote: 2020-12-17, 10:57 UTC 1. maybe add support for custom hotkeys, clicks etc and turn off the delays, let user choose what feature they wish to use and what click/hotkeys to bind to.
Re: total commander missing few key features?
Hi, wtfiwinomgs.
Total Commander is highly configurable. Most of what you suggest can already be achieved by reconfiguring your Total Commander.
Pay special attention to the parameters in the configuration file wincmd.ini.

You might like to read the help file, which comes with Total Commander, completely and carefully, before submitting feature requests.wtfiwinomgs wrote: 2020-12-30, 09:13 UTCmaybe add support for custom hotkeys, clicks etc and turn off the delays, let user choose what feature they wish to use and what click/hotkeys to bind to.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.

Custum hotkeys for more than 600 functions can for example be set via "Configuration" -> "Options..." -> "Misc." -> "Redefine hotkeys (keyboard remapping)"
Have you for example tried to set PopupDelay=150 (I recommend 250 though), to reduce the wait for the context meny to popup. If you set the delay shorter than that, you will find out why a delay is necessary when using right-click selection. If you want Explorer-behaviour, just disable right-click selection (Operation -> Mouse selection mode). If you don't want to see the little progress bar when right-clicking you can use the ContextProgress=0 setting.
Admitted you cannot disable the (very short) delay clicking the current directory bar when you want to edit it. But the bar also supports double-clicking (opens the Directory hotlist) - and that would not work without a small delay. But if you cannot wait for the path to become editable, then just assign a hotkey to the cm_EditPath command.

Re: total commander missing few key features?
Suggestion:
Another file manager - can't remember which one - asks you, whne started for the first time, if you want to use the "Total Commander/Norton Commander" keyboard layout or the Explorer one. It was also configurable afterwards in the settings.
An option to switch all relevant keyboard shortcuts/ mouse modes at once could be useful.
(In the short time I visit this forum (once in a while), this topic has come up a couple of times already, so there must be some need for this)
