Built-in ZIP packer and CRC checking
Is it possible to disable the CRC checking which occurs right after a creating of a ZIP file in Total Commander?
In my opinion, this useless feature, but occupies a time.

Re: Built-in ZIP packer and CRC checking
I find it very useful every time I try to unpack other archives ending with a 'unable to pack becasuse archive is broken' message. This nearly never happened to me with zip files (since zip performes a CRC check).Divak wrote:In my opinion, this useless feature, but occupies a time.
Sometimes I use even zip with zero compression to be able to check quick the integrity of an archive (and it's containing files) - nowadays I use more often the 'Create CRC cchecksum' feature of TC.
By the way: This crc check of TC indicated at least ten times problems with memory/harddisk/USB-stick that otherwise wouldn't have atracted attention (but still would have caused troubles).
So I don't want to convince you to keep CRC of zip enabled but recommend to enable CRC check for sensible data.

I believe what you suggest. I always enable the CRC check of TC.Sheepdog wrote:I find it very useful every time I try to unpack other archives ending with a 'unable to pack becasuse archive is broken' message. I had kept some sensible data into one ZIP flie with password encrypt.
Each time I add new part to this ZIP file and the ZIP file looks OK.
Then one day I found out that I could no longer unzip the data from
this ZIP file. The TC replied "error in packed file"!

Is there any way I can try to unpack my data in this situation? Or
is there any tool which can solve this problem?

I am sure in my computer. It never let me down before!Sheepdog wrote:By the way: This crc check of TC indicated at least ten times problems with memory/harddisk/USB-stick that otherwise wouldn't have atracted attention (but still would have caused troubles).Divak wrote:In my opinion, this useless feature, but occupies a time.

So, that feature has not helped you.kuoguy wrote:I believe what you suggest. I always enable the CRC check of TC.

Try to find pkzipfix (ZIP Recovery Utility) on FTPs. This little utility reconstruct the specified ZipFile and create PKFIXED.ZIP recovering files from ZipFile where possible.kuoguy wrote: Is there any way I can try to unpack my data in this situation? Or

Try tcArchive_ZIP.Crypto.DLL.zip from http://clubtotal.free.fr/index.php?dir=Tools/ , maybe your encryption DLL has been overwritten through a TC update. Is there any way I can try to unpack my data in this situation?

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.
So I wish you good luck. And hope that you never will find out the hard way that the MTBF of all components of your Computer do not add.Divak wrote:I am sure in my computer. It never let me down before!
Try to use the standalone/commandline version of ZIP to unpack your file.kuoguy wrote:Is there any way I can try to unpack my data in this situation? Or

Thanks! Hacker. What you describe is exactly the situation. descrypt the ZIP file OK when I used the TC 6.0 and then the file was
locked after I recently upgraded to TC 6.03a.

I have tried the pkzipfix.exe to fix the file. It failed.

I also tried what you told me to overwrite the wcmzip32.dll into my
TC directory. I don't know whether the wcmzip32.dll is not "old"
enough or not? It failed again. TC told me either "CRC error packing"
or "error in packed file".

I feel it's quite close although it failed again. Do you have other clue
to solve this?

Thanks for your help.

Hi !
… and change too the SFX-header file, or else you can't create such SFX as a coded EXE (with a password) - Link in my signature below.

… then change its attributes as "Read only", you will not have problems of overwriting with TC-updates…Sheepdog>>Did you actually download this and replaced the one in the TC directory with it?

Yes, I did actually replace the "wcmzip32.dll" in the TC directory.Clo wrote:2kuoguy

I also tried to overwrite the SFX header. So far I did not succeed in
decrypting my old packed file. Maybe I should try other ZIP crack or
compress software? Any good suggestion?
