question - how do I -or- where can I find a utility to

Post by *roadrun777 »

I am trying to search a bunch of RAR and ZIP files for NFO files with a specific word in them (ex. shareware), and then move the parent archive to a 'virtual' list that I can manipulate or copy from.

For example, I would like to be able to feed a list of the archives in which the search has found NFO files that match my query.
If I could do this then I could seperate archive files quickly into catagories and them move them from there.

I know I can easily extract NFO files into one dump dir, but then I have no idea which file they came from, and even if I had a text file showing me, I would still have to move them manually one by one.

Is there some way to automate this? If TC 6 can't do this or there isn't some 'find files' replacement (or plugin), then can someone tell me of a utility to accomplish this? I have spent the last 2 hours browsing through the forums and it seems no one else has a need for this?
[mod_nolock]Welcome to the board,

please use a title that describes the content of your post . A good topic name will improve your chances to get many good answers. It will be also easier to identify a topic in a search result list. In this case it could be "Feed to listbox if text has been found in a file contained in an archive". You are free to apply this suggestion or choose a better one of your choice. To change the title click the "Edit"-button of this posting.

:) Hello, welcome on board !

¤ The "Search" function doesn't display a list of results when there are archives to search into…
- Hence, the following handlings you wish seem impossible currently from that built-in feature...
- I don't know a plugin or so to do that; maybe other users will have some workarounds :?:

 Kind regards,
Claude

I know I can easily extract NFO files into one dump dir, but then I have no idea which file they came from
If you check "Unpack each archive to a separate subdir (name of the archive)" on the unpack file dialog, you get all files into separate directories named exactly like the archive files.
