Welcome to the board,
please use a title that describes the content of your post . A good topic name will improve your chances to get many good answers. It will be also easier to identify a topic in a search result list. In this case it could be "Mouse click on a upper directory in "Current Directory" panel changes directory". You are free to apply this suggestion or choose a better one of your choice. To change the title click the "Edit"-button of this posting.
there have been several threads about this topic. I think this one is the most important. You'll probably find more links to other related topics inside that thread. We even have a poll about this. Maybe you want to give your vote here

Great, great, great news!!!
Thanks! That was a very favourable feature by many users I think!
Please, Christian don't forget of course to document the addition in the help file for new users.

Is it possible to implement that long-awaited "hyperpath" feature as just clicking on the path if mentioned above functionality already disabled by user (InplaceRenamePath=0)?[/face]

Yes, it was (is) one of the most popular suggested behaviours.
The only disadvantage I could think of is that it is one step down from the ideal straightforward solution (IMHO, Servant Salamander's approach), since it needs the collaboration of both mouse and keyboard to function.
That is why I think the best method is to follow Servant Salamander's approach (directly clickable path sections) and adapt a delayed left-click for the current edit-path feature.

Christian's current reported implementation will not introduce a CHANGE in a current behaviour but an ADDITION. So, you have nothing to be afraid of!
If my suggestion is finally followed then, yes, there is a small change on the current behaviour. Sheepdog's suggestion makes sure that both me and the rest of the users are happy!

Since clicking on the path already makes it editable…
¤ This is not quite true always :
(English Tutorial >> Totalcmd.inc >> Navigation)
In order to open this field by a single click on the title-bar of the active window too, you ought to enable the display of these bars, of course.
You must also verify and / or change the entry of wincmd.ini : InplaceRenamePath=1
if you would have set InplaceRename=0, or else the single-click could not work !
- Hence, this "addition" is related to a single left-click
- The users who prefer both entries above as "0" will not be able to use it.
- So, the Sheepdog's wish makes sense, we would have really an "old" and a "new" behaviours… Kind regards,
Claude

Plz, forgive me but I didn't really understood your argument here.
Anyway, I don't really see why any type of behaviour should concern a user that deactivates the path-field functionality. So, as you pointed out if a "since clicking on the path already makes it editable" (Ref: C.G.) "is not quite true always" (Ref: Clo) what is the problem if you don't use it?!
Unless you are just contributing your beta-testing nature here!

A setting in wincmd.ini like:
EditPathOldBehavior=0/1
sheepdog
I totally support this new wincmd.ini key
because edit current dir field is rarely used so it will be better to control this new feture by this new key as follow
EditPathOldBehavior=1 ; left click to edit & shift+ left click to change dir
EditPathOldBehavior=0 ; shift+ left click to edit & left click to change dir
