Thumbnails setup
Hi all, i was reading many threads related to thumbnails.
My point is to have quite large thumbnails (300x300),
1. correctly oriented even when seeing RAW files thumbnails,
2. see the thumbnails quickly when first time displaying them
3. when deleting or moving files, the refresh should be fast, expecting just update to thumbs.db
In xnview or irfanview, the display of the thumbnails is fast. But not in TC.
Please, how to solve this?

anyone please?
Re: Thumbnails setup
That depends on the lister plugins you have and your config under Thumbnails.
For me Icarus provides Explorer thumbnails which TC uses of course.
Also the option to use "Internal thumbnails from images" in TC is set (needs TC 10).

Re: Thumbnails setup
By me thumbnails appear pretty fast in TC - faster than in my IrfanView for example
Here is my settings - just adapt path and size (ThumbWidthNoCache and ThumbHeightNoCache) to your liking:
The idea is to not use plugins to provide the thumbnails if other means are available for a file type - plugins is usually slower.

Re: Thumbnails setup
It may be due to TC 10, it uses a new method (ThumbGdiplusTypes) which loads thumbnails from preview streams from the actual images (supports JPG and various raw formats).By me thumbnails appear pretty fast in TC - faster than in my IrfanView for example

Re: Thumbnails setup
To mee it seems that the differencies in thumbnail extraction speed is this (fastets to slowest) for jpg files:
ThumbGdiplusTypes
Plugin (Imagine, PhotoViewer)
Explorer method
IrfanView
This is tested in 64bit TC under Windows 7 - ThumbGdiplusTypes is significantly the fastest. Plugins and Explorer metod are almost the same and IrfanView if remarkably slowest.

Re: Thumbnails setup
The plugins also differ quite a bit in speed. for example, ulister is very slow, but supports many formats not supported by anything else. So if you use that, it may help to move it a bit down in the list of plugins.

and only necessary for Office and OpenOffice formats.
For all other file types there a much better plugins available.
