is it possible to drag the current directory somewhere?
I couldn't find a place to start dragging so that the currently displayed directory was the drag content, is it possible? I wish for this functionality quite frequently!

No, you have to go up one directory, or select all and drag just the files/subfolders.

Then I would humbly submit the suggestion to add that feature, perhaps by starting to drag from the bar that contains the name of the directory (nothing happens at the moment when doing that)ghisler(Author) wrote: 2021-05-11, 09:18 UTC No, you have to go up one directory, or select all and drag just the files/subfolders.

wayfinder,
As a workaround, you could use the separate trees for that (Ctrl-Shift-F8).

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.
Re: is it possible to drag the current directory somewhere?
thank you for the suggestion! i'll try and see if that works for me. initial impression is that it's very disorienting that the current directory is in a different place every time i switch tabs, but we'll see how distracting it actually ends up being in use - and also, the lost screen real estate to a feature i never use for anything else hurts a little, but perhaps that'll be alright as well, too early to tell.Hacker wrote: 2021-05-11, 13:13 UTC wayfinder,

wayfinder,
Well, or you could use Ctrl-PageUp to go to the updir, copy the dir wherever you need, and Alt-Left back where you were.

Re: is it possible to drag the current directory somewhere?
not really what you want but you can put in the clip-board the current path using nircmd !
Code: Select all
cmd=<path to>nircmd.exe
parameters=clipboard set %P
Re: is it possible to drag the current directory somewhere?
additional actions/keystrokes are not the sort of solution i am looking for. a pure mouse solution would be ideal. so far the directory tree seems the most promising workaroundHacker wrote: 2021-05-11, 14:13 UTC wayfinder,

BTW - you can right click at [..], choose "Cut", then right-click in the target directory and choose "Paste" - that is a 100% mouse oriented way to do it. (of course if you don't want to move the directory but to copy it , you just choose "Copy" in sted of "Cut").

that's pretty great, thank you!
Re: is it possible to drag the current directory somewhere?
One thing the workarounds are currently unable to do is drag the current pane contents somewhere when it's not showing a directory (so, for instance, a search result) :/
I also find myself wanting "drag all the currently displayed contents" more often than "drag the current directory", which is a distinction I am only making now that the latter is possible through the workarounds. Basically, I dislike select-all?

Re: is it possible to drag the current directory somewhere?
found a reproducible crash dragging the directory from the directory tree view:
when the right file pane is currently active, dragging a directory will not work at first, and after some more tries, will crash the program.
video: click here to see it in action. first: adding a directory to a foobar playlist via drag and drop from the directory tree, while the left file pane is active. works. second: with the right pane active. does not add anything to the playlist. third: another attempt. crashes TC.

Re: is it possible to drag the current directory somewhere?
Thanks, I can reproduce the problem. It happens under the following conditions:
1. Only one separate tree
2. The right file panel is the active panel (the tree may still have the focus)
3. You drag a folder to an external program (not within Total Commander)
I will fix it.
