With 32bit TC ACE archives can be unpacked with internal unpacker, but this does not work for 64bit TC
I have testet several 64bit TC versions from version 8.00 and up - and non of them can unpack ACE archives internally.

Re: [TC x64]Internal unpacking of ACE archives does not work - and never did!
Well, since this bug has been (undetected) in TC for about nine years, I'm doubting very much that anyone still uses this archive format. I would go even a step further: I wouldn't waste any time on supporting such a format in TC. There are lots of possibilities and programs to unpack such archives - if anyone really has the need for that. Sure, it should be made very clear that it's broken/unsupported in TC x64 if this route was taken (because non-functioning things in a software are not a good thing, although MS would beg to differ it seems
).
BTW, the same applies to other archive formats which can be considered obsolete (ARJ, LHA, UC2). And judging from the numerous threads about adding newer archive formats and removing obsolete ones at the same time, it seems like I'm not alone with this opinion.

This hasn't been undetected, it's well known that the unacev2.dll is only availble for 32-bit, so it's not possible to use it from 64-bit. Also the ACE packer was discontinued many years ago, so it's a dead format - new ACE archives are very unlikely to appear these days. Therefore it's sufficient when you can unpack them with Total Commander 32-bit.
It is also possible to use winace.exe as unpacker for ACE files.

Then the option to "Use internal un-ACE if possible" should be greyed out (or removed) in the Packer Configuration of Total Commander 64-bit

Indeed. That way it would be clear that there is no internal ACE support in TC x64.petermad wrote: 2021-06-20, 08:46 UTCThen the option to "Use internal un-ACE if possible" should be greyed out (or removed) in the Packer Configuration of Total Commander 64-bit

Yes it should be disabled, thanks for the info.

Confirmed fixed in TC 10.50b1 x64history.txt wrote:25.06.21 Fixed: Configuration - Options - Packer: Disable checkbox for internal ACE unpacker because it's unavailable in 64-bit (64)
