how put files from many folders into one?

Post by *Chris Scott »

I have several folders with 20 files, over 100 files. Want to move these 100+ files to one folder. Can TC do this?

Could this work for you?

1. search all the files you want to move
2. in Find Files window click 'Feed to listbox' button, then the search result will list in one panel
3. switch another panel to your target folder
4. select all search result and press F6

:) Hello !
¤ That depends if all these sub-folders are located in the same folder. In that case, it's possible :
- Open the target directory in a panel,
- Open the main folder which contains the sub-folders,
- Use the Branch-view command (Ctrl+B)
- All files are diplayed in the panel of the main folder,
- Select all files (Ctrl+A)
- Move into the opposite panel (I use Drag & Drop +Alt)
- End :D

- Whether the files are located in scattered folders I fear isn't possible as "one shot" like above… :(
- You will have to open every folder one after the other, then select all in each, and move the contents in the target directory…

 Kind regards,
Claude

Whoa! Fast reply Claude!

Neat trick! As good as I could do with old DOS utility (that broke when 32 meg HD barrier was broken). Shucks it can't be done with scattered folders.

Thanks!

A workaround ???

- For scattered folders, you could try :
- Open any empty temp. /patching directory in a panel,
- Select the scattered dirs you need (keeping Ctrl pressed)
- Move them into the empty temp. dir.

- Then, apply the previous method…
:| Just a workaround, though.

:) No doubt it works, but that needs to enter all FILES in the Search ! Chris Scott tells he has 20…100 files in each folder !
- So, the workaroud I proposed above must be faster…

Arg! Post seems to have disappeared, sorry if this comes up twice.

Raymond's search trick is great if resulting listbox doesn't include too many unwanted folders and files, so wanted files are easy to find and mark. But if the search includes too much clutter, Clo's method seems way to go.

Hoped that Move and Copy options had some syntax that allowed files to be moved or copied without moving the folder. Shucks! But thanks for great work-arounds!
