Weird Exclamation mark before the name of a TAB
Hi all,
I've recently noticed that one exclamation mark shows up before the name of a tab and I didn't see something like this before.
Once you select any other tab, the exclamation mark disappears, but right after a while it shows up again in the new selected tab.

Can anybody tell me what's this?
Best regards,
Jcjimenez

You have locked a tab but directory changes allowed.
Look on the context menu of the tab

Nope, that's the asterisk character shown before the name, as always, for locked folders with directory changes allowed. The exclamation mark before the name is completely new for me and I've been using TC for many years.

Check again and you will see that the ! comes before the * after you change to a sub-folder.
I use TC since Windows 3.11, I think you can't beat that

Maybe this...
HISTORY.TXT
10.08.16 Release Total Commander 9.0 beta 9 (32/64)
10.08.16 Added: wincmd.ini [Configuration] ShowHiddenSystemOverlay=1/0 show exclamation mark overlay for hidden and system files/folders
Thanks to Horst.Epp this above is a visible marker for the list view.
Thanks to DrShark for pointing to the right direction, visible marker for the folder tab header:
10.03.21 Release Total Commander 10.00 public beta 1
22.10.20 Added: Folder tabs with option "locked but directory changes allowed": Show "!" prefix when current dir differs from locked dir, e.g. !*windows
(I have now put "exclamation mark" behind this line in my local History.txt for to find it next time too)

It indicates that the directory in the file panel differs from the locked directory (with directory changes allowed).
This was mainly added for the case when you disable "Return to locked tab root directory on tab change" in Configuration - Options - Folder tabs.
It's a warning that when you drag a file to that tab, it will not go to the locked folder, but instead to the folder where you were last in.

Now you got your answer, but the history.txt file is most often a good friend:
