Any way to copy multiple file names?

Hi folks,

Imagine this:

In the left hand pane i have 36 files. Their names are random (no numerical aspect to them). They are sorted based on age.

In the right hand pane i also have 36 files. They are also named randomly (different names from the left pane) and are also sorted based on age.

Is there any way to rename the files on the right to have the same names as the files on the left? I mean in a batch process that saves me copy / pasting 36 times.

All files are the same type (extension) so no need to alter the extensions.

- select the files
-Menu "Mark > Copy selected Names To Clipboard

Right
- select the files
- open Menu "Files > Multi-Rename Tool...
- in MRT
> press F1 key and read at "Opens a context menu with the following options:" and "Edit names:"
> check the right order of names (you can drag them)
> click at "Edit names..." > editor with current names will open > paste in the names from clipboard
(((maybe copy both new and old names to a spreadsheet side-by-side and compare the right order)))
>> save editor >>> MRT [ok] >>>> check the preview of NewNames >>>>> ... your part

I'm afraid i don't quite understand your instructions.

This is the part i don't understand:

when i have the MRT tool open, if i press F1, i get the total commander help window opening. From there, i don't understand how to perform your instructions.

Any chance you could do a quick screen capture of what you mean?

Ok, i worked it out, in case anyone else needs to do it, here it is:

Left
- select the files
-Menu "Mark > Copy selected Names To Clipboard

Open a text doc and paste the names and save to a location

Right
- select the files
- open Menu "Files > Multi-Rename Tool...
- in MRT

In the lower window that lists the file's old and (soon to be) new names, hover over the "new name" column, right click, then click "load names from file",then browse to the location of the text doc mentioned above and open it.

You'll now see all the new names you want listed there as well as the old names.

Press "start" and Bob's your uncle!
