TC 10.0 (64-bit) "Error in packed file" on opening 7z file with unicode signs

Post by *misvin »

Sometimes TC 10.0 (64-bit) fails to open 7z files and users get "Error in packed file" message.
It depends on the folder name :!: :?:

Scenario:
1. Download the 7z2107-src.7z file from https://www.7-zip.org/download.html
2. I can open this file from c:\Users\Misvin\Downloads\7z2107-src.7z
3. When I try to open this file from the e:\Software\7-Zip\3 ■ Downloads\2 ■ 7-Zip 21.07\7 ■ 7-Zip Source code\7z2107-src.7z, I get the message "Error in packed file..."

I cannot confirm. Works properly.

EDIT
Works properly with my configuration (Total7Zip plugin installed) - bug occurs with clean INI only on 64-bit version. 32-bit seems works properly.

The issue seems to be older than 10.0 version as my 9.12, 9.20, 9.51 and 9.52 fresh distro have the same issue but not very old 9.0. (once more only on 64bit version)
If you install Total7zip no more issue...
If i change TC7z64.dll in Total Commander (by oldest from 9.0 version, by newest from 7-zip-std) folder the same error arise !

Who is responsible for solving this problem: Christian Ghisler or Igor Pavlov?
Please note that TC 10.0 uses version 19.0 of TC7Z64.DLL file (the latest version is 21.07).

Why should Igor solve a not existing problem.
As nsp and Gral wrote, using Total7zip plugin there is no problem.

It's a known problem which I have already fixed for the next version 10.5. The problem is caused by the Unicode characters from a different codepage in the path. The internal 7zip unpacker in TC 10 does not yet support Unicode in archive names/paths.

Problem confirmed for 64bit only with TC10.00.

Tested OK using TC10.50b2 64bit and Windows 11.
