Noob questions
When I sort a folder by date, it groups the zip files on the top of the list, THEN it sorts the other files by date. Is there any way to change this?
Is there a way to use my external AIMP instead of the internal?
Is there any way to see the total time of selected media files (hh:mm:ss) besides clicking Properties? Windows Explorer does this.
I can't add the Downloads folder to the hotlist?
Thanks for the help.

Re: Noob questions
Please add you TC and OS version to your postings.
1. No such problem, zip files are sorted by date together with any other file types.
2. There is no AIMP plugin, so I see no chance.
3. Use custom columns using a plugin like Mediainfo but there is no sum of the lenght for selected files.
This info can be seen in Everything but this is not for beginners.
4. What is the problem or error adding the Downloads folder to the hotlist ?
Enter that folder and add it with the * Add current dir

Re: Noob questions
Sorry, TC10, Win 10.
My other file types are not grouped together, only zips. The other file types are sorted by date. That's what I want, the most recent file on top regardless of type.
I can't choose what app to play audio files with? It's forcing me to use the internal player?
I go to my downloads folder, I press CTRL+D and there is no Add Current Dir listed.

Re: Noob questions
That's all because you use the virtual explorer folder \\Downloads.
- In explorer view a zip file is of typ "compressed (zipped) Folder" and TC does not mix folders and files in the file list (folders are always on top of the list).
- Virtual Folders can't be added to the Directory hotlist.
Workaround
Use the real download-Directory instead:
In command line type
and add this path to the "Directory hotlist (Ctrl+D)"
"I can't choose what app to play audio files with? It's forcing me to use the internal player?"
Nothing is forcing you to use only the Internal Viewer.
If AIMP is not already associated with multimedia file extension (Context menu "open" or <Enter>) you can use "Files->Internal associations (Total Commander only)" to associate multimedia file extensions with AIMP.
Or use "Configuration-> Options...->Edit/View: External Viewer : Associations.." to associate multimedia extension with AIMP.
Only the "Show->Quick view panel (Ctrl+Q)" is not possible with external viewer (but with internal player).

With a content plugin like https://totalcmd.net/plugring/MediaTime.html you can create a Custom Colum View
which would show the duration for single audio files as well as the sum of all durations for a folder, but there is no way to show this only for selected files & folder.

dparrott,

There is no such functionality in TC (grouping ZIPs on top). Can you please post a screenshot? My other file types are not grouped together, only zips. The other file types are sorted by date.

Mal angenommen, du drückst Strg+F, wählst die FTP-Verbindung (mit gespeichertem Passwort), klickst aber nicht auf Verbinden, sondern fällst tot um.
Re: Noob questions
Cool, I got it, thanks.
It treats zips as folders so it groups them at the top. OK then, whatever. Not a big deal I guess.

Zips are not placed on the top in any normal TC behaviour.

HolgerK,
Roman
Thanks. In that case, indeed, the OP needs to use real folders, not virtual ones. Here is one: viewtopic.php?t=16408 -> https://madsenworld.dk/tcmd/virtualzip.png
