TC10.50b1 Thanks for the DirSize option

Post by *Horst.Epp »

Thanks for this new option :D

History

Code: Select all

15.03.22 Added: wincmd.ini [Configuration] GetDirSize=0 0:Manual: Alt+Shift+Enter, 1:Automatic, local drives only, 2:Automatic, also on network, 3:Automatic, only with 'Everything' (32/64)
15.03.22 Added: New options to load directory sizes: either manually (Alt+Shift+Enter), or automatically: only for local drives, or for network drives too, or only via 'Everything' (32/64)
I have set it to 3 and its nice to always have the dir size displayed without any delay.

Yes, thanks too.

It is a little hidden away though - it would be nice with a cm_command for it so it could be put in a button or a shortcut - of course supporting parameters 0 - 3.

petermad,
Well, it's accessible through Configuration - Operation. I think that's exposed enough.
The configuration dialog could maybe use another redesign, though, it's quite cramped.

I noticed that the counting can be cancelled - in case it is dragging out - by pressing Escape, so that helps. But I would still like a cm_command for this.

Using a suggested Everything installation which always runs the client in the background
there is nothing to cancle because there is no delay at all after changing a dir in TC :D
Users may have clients still running indexing in the background
but in the 1.5 version even this should not make big delays.
Having a cm_command may be of help.

petermad,
Honestly I am only using Everything for the calculation and I do not notice any slowdown in TC.

Here it depends on the computer and the OS:
On my Pentium i7 desktop with Windows 7 the update is instant
On my old Laptop with Windows 10, it is a bit slow even with 'Everything' running as service
On my other old Laptop with Windows 7 it is reasonably fast with 'Everything' enabled.
On the same laptop, but running Windows XP it is instant with 'Everything' enabled.

Windows 10 can really take the life out of old processors.

I am testing at the root of C:

What an awesome little feature! Thanks from me too, love it!

Just as an FYI, because I spent a few minutes searching myself:
This only works if the "Index folder size" option is checked in Everything under Options - Indexes. Which I suspect it is not by default, because it was not checked on mine.

Thanks for the hint with Everything options. That saved time for me.

Indeed beta 2 will warn when you choose the last option (to only use Everything) and this feature isn't checked.
