How to Install Irfanview for Use in ^Q Quick View Panel

Post by *PeterTBCarp »

I'm fairly sure Irfanview can be used as a plugin for the Ctrl-Q Quick View panel - but there's no help anywhere - on the plugins page nor irfanview.com.
Can anyone help?
I'm looking for a .wfx or .wlx file - aren't I?

(I know Irfanview etc can be used to associate files with itself - but I'm after a Ctrl-Q Quick View Panel install.)

So much talk but so little detail.
I've seen one installation where ^Q plays a sound bar, shows photos, plays wma/v movies - everything - but nowhere tells me how.
I'd be very grateful.
Thx.

Its very simple:
Confiduration->Options->edit/view->Configure internal viewer...:Multimedia Display:Use Irfanview/Xnview for Graphic other than BMP:
browse to the Path where your Irfanview is.

That' should it be

I would use different plugin :

imagine.wlx for images files
mmedia.wlx for sound or video files (though it uses wmplayer)
or other plugin...

Why? because of this ...

Thank you Dogs and Franck.
I've installed XNView as well as Irv - but there's no information on using them together in TC. There's only one path to select either/or in the Multimedia Display section - - -
How do you do it? (Use them together/as alternatives?)

And imagine - the zip comes with a wlx and a couple of folders - but the megre instructions just say '..point LS-Plugins to the wlx..' after putting it in the TC folder. Done that. Che?? What next??
What about the folders it comes with - Language and Plugins??
And THEN - how do you use 'imagine'? It's not on the longrightclick menu; it's not the default action on dblclk; it's not anywhere....
Where? What?? How??

This is all so very unprofessional. Programmers need to speak to users, ISTM.
Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.

[And, frankly, Christian's Help system is a dog's breakfast. (For example: Where-to-find/Location, How-to-use & examples must be given on EVERY page. And, it LOOKS bad.) Is there a project going on developing _IT_ into something approximating the Help of proper professional, commercial software? Until it does I'm sure TC will just chug along in the backdrops of Potentially Great, Amateur Software. :-/ ]

First, TC is in NO WAY an amateur software

Irfanview and Xnview are external program that CAN be used (or called) in TC :!:

Imagine (and other wlx, wfx, wcx) are plugins MADE TO BE USE in TC.

 The approach is completly different

It seems that you are new to TC, the best thing for you (i think) is to use TC plugman. It's an external application that manage plugin for TC...

For each plugin, you will have to extract all files from the corresponding archive to a desire location, then use TC plugman...

You should also have a look at Clo's tutorial. It will show you example...

You choose one of them by configuring its path. Then that one will be used exclusively.
And imagine - the zip comes with a wlx and a couple of folders - but the megre instructions just say '..point LS-Plugins to the wlx..' after putting it in the TC folder. Done that. Che?? What next??
Press F3 when the cursor is on an image file. Depending on 'Lister - Options - Configure - Load bitmaps as graphics at startup' the file will be immediately shown as an image or you have to press '4' for Image/Multimedia. If you install other Lister plugins (WLX) that support the same filetype, you can cycle through them using '4'.

Any further questions we will be glad to answer.

Or you can use ^Q for quick view- as requested. If you want to be sure that imagine is the first used plugin for pictures you can use indeed TCPlugman where is an option to change the position of each plugin.

You can also change the position in the LS-Plugins configuration.

Be my guest, Carp.

Actually it says

_________transmission_from_Readme.Txt_____________

*** Installation (Only in Total Commander) ***

1. Unzip the Imagine.wlx to the Total Commander directory
2. Choose Configuration - Options
3. Open the 'Edit/View' page
4. Click 'Configure internal viewer'
5. Click 'LS-Plugins' button
6. Click 'Add' button and select the Imagine.wlx
7. Click 'OK'

_______________end_of_transmission________________

Even complete idiots can manage. And if some plugin came with additional files or folders most of complete idiots I know put them to the same folder they placed plugin. Almost all, of course.

P> Done that. Che?? What next??

Well, next is RTFM.

Let's start from that "Configure internal viewer" dialog with "LS-Plugins" button:

_________transmission_from_TOTALCMD.HLP___________

Dialog box: Configure lister

LS-Plugins: This button allows to install/remove lister plugins.

_______________end_of_transmission________________

You see, these are plugins for lister, not so obvious but I guess complete idiots still can get it.

Next step is magical word "lister":

_________transmission_from_TOTALCMD.HLP___________

The internal file lister (F3)

The integrated file lister allows to view files of almost any size (now up to 2^63 bytes) in text, unicode, html, binary or hex format, bitmap graphics, multimedia files, and now also RTF files. It keeps only a small part of the file in memory (except for bitmaps), the rest is automatically loaded when scrolling through the text.

_______________end_of_transmission________________

Well, everything is clear with that "lister" but there is some "F3" thing in the topic name 8|.

So, what is that "F3"? Hmm... Yep, this is the main question in this issue - there is nothing about it in Help. So this is the part there complete idiots should stick, I guess.[/face]

[mod]Black Dog,

The help you provide is very good and we (and most of the community) are grateful for that. However, the profane language you are using is not tolerable. In addition you're putting PeterTBCarp before a decision - either he manages to follow your instructions or he is an idiot.

Yeah, very poor form, Blk Dog. You deserve your Moderation.

Apart from him, thank you, gentlemen.

Looks as though I have to use IRfanview and XnView separately. And I'm learning a greater distinction between Addins and Plugins.

Thanks for the use of '4' - missed it on the last line of an almost inaccessible Help page about configuring plugins. Neat. (Who'd have expected a menu choice as a repeatable item...?)

Now, to return to my thesis, and a little black dog:-

Help IS a mess. And it makes a bad example to all the other help writers who write plugins. BD tries to make a distinction without a difference by presenting the help in place of my precis - which achieves nothing, since my precis was accurate. Typical of Helps, and of BD.

BD quotes TC Help (assuming that Help has helped me get to this obscure page already (how is a niave user expected to know that lister (lower-case!) addresses graphics?)): "..This button allows to install/remove lister plugins."
This IS completely amateurish. It's incorrect English.
Again, (maybe I should start a new thread) professional software gets its Help correct. ("..allows you to..") You guys have to smarten up your Germglish - or is it Deutschglish - or Euroglish? None of it's good.
(See how I've used capital letters? 'Lister' is a Proper Noun, a name, like Peter, so it should be capitalised - everywhere.)

But back to BD for a moment - 'magical' 'lister'. Correct! It is magical in the context here. I'd say lister (actually, Lister) came from Vern Beurg's original DOS program List.com that displayed simple text. That's what a list is - lines of text; it sure doesn't imply graphics: pictures, audio, video.
So you're keeping that all to yourselves and expecting people to know what to search for in the dreaded Help. You're losing a lot of customers, boys.

As for moving all imagine's files/folders into the TC folder - that's a new one on me: if it doesn't say so then I have no reason to do it. Everyone knows how easily computers can get upset. Indeed MANY files in zips don't need to be included in manual installations. Try .diz's, for instance. Indeed I've just culled a lot of unnecessary files from TC_Plugman's group; totally unnecessary. Assume the least is my rule.

Oh, and read the questions, BD - I was after ^Q help here. Others did.

It's a pity this thread's become so convoluted since it could have been good help to others - but with the bickering it's spoilt. I never mind a fight ('Don't mention the...') but it's discourteous and pointless.

To those who were a help: thanks again.

My moderation is not your business, buddy.

You just don't know how to use it, so a mess is in some other place.

LOL

OMG, really?! And what about "imagine"? %)))

It doesn't say so because it's obvious.

P> Oh, and read the questions, BD - I was after ^Q help here.

Functionality is the same - that's obvious too.

So keep reading the manual, should help. May be.[/face]

Listen, Blk Dg,
If you're going to give the benefit of your knowledge of the TC program to the people here then put away all your little personal problems, your pathalogical resentments and your snide, superior air, and just help people with good grace - as other people here manage to do.
You added nothing with your last response and achieved less. Take a lesson when you're given one. Start up a Help Rewrite project, and concentrate your mind productively. (Though, looking at your expression just now, maybe [ONE word] you should stay away from English altogether....)

PS You know Basil Fawlty of the British 'Fawlty Towers' TV series? The world needs only one Basil, and it's taken.
PPS It seems, if you look, that the imagine people have deliberately adopted a lower-case use of the word. That ain't the case with Lister. (See the distinction?)
PPPS Are you a fairly young person?

[mod]Hi,

after a moderation comment has been added there is no need for other members not even for the insulted user to give additional comments to the user about his commented post. The insultings made by Black Dog are no reason to insult him too. The moderation comment should be enough. Thank you!
