Saving Visited Folder History Between Sessions

Post by *PeterTBCarp »

Is there a way of saving the history of locations you have been to in the panels - from one use of TC, exiting it, and starting TC again? This is the history under the inverted-arrowhead/caron at the top right-hand-side corner of each panel.

There doesn't seem to be any reference to doing so in the FAQ - nor in Help.

[BTW - in Help, after you use Find to search for a word, is there a way to locate that word in the pages returned by Find | Display? There's a lot of text in some of those pages.]
[Try Help Search Find accent; choose Frequestly asked questions, Display. What's the best way to locate the word accent in all that?

Hi,

Unfortunately not. This is currently one of the most wanted features.

Here are some links to old threads about this:

Visit History

Ah. -Search- was the one thing I forgot.

How'd you do that, Lefty? Just the Search of the forum, or do you remember these things?

Any thoughts on using Help?

While we're talking about the Wish List - could we add to the Save History subject:
a) Clicking on the down-arrowhead/caron a second time makes the list disappear
b) Alt-DownArrow from the keyboard should make the list appear in the same place the clicking in a) above makes it appear.

Not by now but it's often requested. Maybe in the next version ?
BTW you can use the Help for identifying the proper name of any button etc.:
Use [F1] and then Click to 'User interface'
There are sample pictures with names on all features. So you could find out that the 'history under the inverted arrow head' is called indeed history.

That way you could get help for the most cases of using TC. Just try to 'press' the appropriate buttons/links you would have pressed by using TC in the help. e.g. You want to know something related to 'search'
Click 'User interface' at 'help index' . then Click to 'Commands' at the picture (as you would have to Press 'command' in the main menu to call the search - if you don't use shortcut [Alt]+[F7].
A etxt box opens with description of Main menu. There is also a link to 'Commands' that leads you to the next page with 'search' and there is a link 'Dialog box find files' There you get the explanation of each of the three Tabs for using the search.

I think this help is quite intuitive.

I miss it myselfd sometimes. But you may use the Tutorial provided by the user Clo. There's an HTML version of the help you can use in the same way as the help but with your browser- so you could use the common search for websites (i.e. probably [Ctrl]+[f] ). There are also additional informations about TC and its usage..

Yes, I used the forum search. I searched for

Code: Select all

sav* history

Standard windows help selects all occurences of the found word. You have to watch out for selected text in the selected help topic. It works fine for me. I agree that some help topics should be devided into several parts because search inside a topic is not supported in standard windows help.
BTW the forum software does the same!

Using the forum search it is handy to use wildcards adding to the subject (sometimes) e.g. search for: *history* *save*

BTW I personally don't like the habit to shorten the nicks like Lefty instead Lefteous and doggies instead of sheepdog and Black Dog.

Try to click the right mouse button.

Thanks again, genlemen.

It was searching in Help I was after, S/Dog, tho I believe you picked that up later.

Are there better Help systems for Windows applications than the one that seems to be standard? It leaves a lot to be desired.
I don't think an HTML Help would really suit (as I see Christian is experimenting with) because it depends on having a browser handy (can't guarantee that) and rendering in HTML is slow. A different 'complied' Help system would be great.

PS S/Dog, we're never very formal where I come from; and our flag's missing! :(

No, I rather referred to the 'closed' thread where you complained 'bout TC- help in general. Thought it could be useful for you to see how this works - perhaps you don't have to use search 'in help' so often.

BTW I copy sometimes the whole text and paste it into a new document and use the search of editor. Not very handy but a workaround.
