Can Total Commander remember the sort settings per folder?
There are some folders which I always view in SORT BY DATE mode (e.g Downloads folder). However, most other folders I view with SORT BY NAME. Right now I constantly have to switch back and forth when I move between folders.
Is there a way to have a default sort for folders? Or to make TotalCmd to remember sort options per folder?
Thanks!

You can use tabs for that (Ctrl+T). I have 3 folders which I use with special ordering, I have added tabs for them with option "locked but directory changes allowed".

Perhaps a better solution would be have a shortcut that goes to download directory and also changes sort to DATE automatically.
I've tried now to mess with TCMC and using this command:
TCMC 50 CD "c:\Users\Vitaly\Downloads\" "" CMcm_SrcByDateTime
This is quite close to what I have in mind. However, now it means that if I execute this command while the panel is already sorted by date, I'll get my download folder but with date reversed
.
P.S Unable to post link to TCMC due to new status so adding it manually:
h-ttp://en.totalcmd.pl/download/add/Add/TC_Multiple_Commands

Try this instead:Or:
Code: Select all
TCMC.exe 50 CD "C:\Users\Vitaly\Downloads\" "" CMcm_SrcByName CMcm_SrcByDateTime
Code: Select all
TCMC.exe 50 CD "C:\Users\Vitaly\Downloads\" "" CMcm_SrcUnsorted CMcm_SrcByDateTime
Nice! Works great!Balderstrom wrote:Try this instead:Or:Code: Select all

Hi, thought I would add to this old thread.
Just discovered there is something called "View Mode".
Configurations > Options > View Mode
Add a new View Mode, and give it a name like "SortByDate", under sort order pick Date and checkmark Descending.
Go to
Configurations > Options > View Mode > Auto Switch Mode
Check mark in Automatically switch view mode on directory change
Add a new rule, and paste your directory, like your download folder "C:\Users\Simon\Downloads\", in the Directory column.
Find your view mode in the Set this mode dropdown, and hit Apply.
You should be good to go.

Re: Can Total Commander remember the sort settings per folder?
Sort by folders date does not work for me, ether default ViewMode or as described above. Only files sorted. It has been like that forever.

You need change configuration first: Configuraton - Options - Display - Sorting directories - Like files - http://gral.y0.pl/tc/folders.gif
